Position Summary
The position General Utility is the entry level production role. It is not bound by one specific role within the production area, but rather a description of a number of duties with in this job classification. The is a general labor role.
Responsibilities
All employees are required to contribute to production operations by complying with policies and procedures for meat processing; Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations, etc.
All employees are required to contribute to a safe and sanitary work environment by complying with established procedures and rules.
General Utility - Sanitation/ Pack-Off (Tan frock)
- Must maintain all pack-out production areas in clean and sanitary conditions. Communicate any issues that are leading to unsanitary conditions in a timely manner to Supervisor and/or Foreman
- Track and record all inedible/empty, weigh all yellow inedible totes or barrels, and empty all trash containers.
- Properly dispose and label all inedible collected (Spraying denaturant on the inedible product)
- Break down all empty combos
- Remove all old printing and labels from the combo before reusing. (Company & USDA)
- All trash, cardboard, and plastic liners must be put in proper containers.
- Ensure the area is staged with inedible containers at start-up and/or ensure all end-of-night dry pick-up duties are performed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assist in accurately training new hires in performing Sanitation/Tan Frock duties
- Prior to leaving at the end of production, check in with the area Foreman and or Supervisor for additional shutdown activities that need to be performed
- Attend to the current needs of the process by responding immediately to the expressed instructions of the Production Supervisor and/or Production Foreman
General Utility - Packer
- Assist with Preparing / Disassembling packaging equipment for the operation, of meat-processing or for sanitation.
- Place each bag in the correct box, visually inspecting each bag to ensure a proper seal. Place any defects in a properly labeled rework container
- Assist with the collection, opening, and reuse of rework ensuring proper identification of product and line to eliminate cross-contamination and allergen concerns
- Assist in relieving co-workers for breaks, which may mean assisting in another position
- Must maintain the production area clean and in a sanitary condition.
- Accurately complete any assigned paperwork
- Assisting in accurately training new employees for Packer duties
- Prior to leaving at the end of production, check in with the area Foreman and or Supervisor for additional shutdown activities that need to be performed
- Attend to current needs of the process by responding immediately to the expressed instruction of the Production Supervisor and/or Production Foreman
General Utility - Palletizer
- Will coordinate with Foreman/ Supervisor/ Ilapak operator, and Shipping and utilize proper Product specification sheet to identify the product that is scheduled to verify and ensure pallets are being stacked correctly, (case per row, how many rows, and pallet configuration)
- Visually inspect cases to ensure cases are labeled and have a clear legible code date.
- Make required adjustments to machinery to facilitate smooth production including but not limited to changing tape, changing code dates, and communicating any all issues in a timely manner
- Operate a manual hand jack as needed (operate a power jack but training is required in the operation of power jacks)
- Facilitating and assisting in the reworking product into production in a timely manner including but not limited to; opening bags and boxes, and reworking combos
- Will assemble, disassemble, and change over equipment including but not limited to; film, tubes, etc., and ensure the machine is protected from the sanitation process
- Will communicate all equipment malfunctions in a timely manner
- Must maintain production area clean and in sanitary condition
- Prior to leaving at the end of production, check in with the area Foreman and or Supervisor for additional shutdown activities that need to be performed
- Assist with Preparing / Disassembling processing equipment for the operation, of meat-processing or for sanitation.
- Attend to the current needs of the process by responding immediately to the expressed instruction of the Production Supervisor and/or Production Foreman
General Utility - Box Maker
- Will coordinate with Foreman/ Supervisor/ Initial operator, and Shipping to identify the product that is scheduled to verify, and stage needed supplies are present for scheduled production runs
- Ensure that boxes, labels, and all other supplies needed for the production run and any changeover are present are staged to facilitate smooth production, communicating any issues or shortages with the supervisor and or foreman
- Ensure label and box match the Specification sheet, and boxes are clear of damage prior to sending to the line (including product label and/or export label)
- Make required adjustments to machinery to facilitate smooth production communicating any issue with the foreman and or supervisor
- Communicate with Foreman and or Supervisor to gain an understanding of when boxes need to be changed over and have box change completed and ready for the next production run
- Communicating and assisting in the transport of frozen rework to the Processing/Grinding location and ensuring the combo is accurately and clearly labeled to prevent cross-contamination or allergen concerns
- Will communicate all equipment malfunctions in timely manner
- Must maintain production/ box room area clean and in sanitary condition
- All assigned paperwork
- Will assist with normal start up or end of night duties including but not limited to: dry pick up, Tan frock duties, breaking down boxes, back staging packing materials and /or product, cleaning, covering, and/or wrapping equipment to protect from sanitation process
- Assist with Preparing / Disassemble processing equipment for operation, of meat- processing or for sanitation.
- Attend to current needs of the process by responding immediately to the expressed instruction of the Production Supervisor and/or Production Foreman
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent in training or experience.
- The ability to read, write and speak English.
- Must be dependable and detail-oriented.
- Must be able to follow directions and work under minimal supervision.
- Communicate effectively and clearly in a timely manner.
- Must be willing to work weekends and overtime hours as the company necessitates.
- Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment safely.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This job operates in a manufacturing environment. The characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. The employee is frequently exposed to colder (30 degrees) and/or warmer temperature areas. The noise level in the work environment is usually high.
