As a Mentor, Recovery Coach Specialist you will provide essential support to AN/AI individuals to initiate, stabilize and maintain long-term recovery from substance use disorders (SUD). Utilizing culturally resonant and evidence-based techniques, this position will provide or link consumers to identified recovery support services; develop personalized recovery plans; provide psychoeducation to enhance clients’ coping skills and resilience; serve as mentors and advocates for clients’ healthcare needs; coordinate care with other FNA programs, including warm transfers when appropriate
The grant that you will be working on is Alaska Native Recovery Coaching (ARC). The goal of ARC is to address the opioid overdose crisis in the Tribal community of the Fairbanks North Star Borough of Alaska (FNSB). The ARC will increase access to medications for the treatment of opioid use disorder (MOUD) and add Recovery Coaching to its existing opioid and recovery continuum of care for American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN).
Job Duties:
- Address underlying recovery issues and support emotional healing. Develop personalized recovery plans and facilitate individual and group therapy sessions to improve long-term recovery outcomes.
- Provide or link clients to identified recovery support services, including linkage to housing and/or recovery housing, maintaining ongoing communication with interested parties and care specialists.
- Support consumers during their treatment experience providing positive feedback and hope. Serve as a mentor and advocate for the consumer’s healthcare needs.
- Increase access to Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) and harm reduction resources.
- Identify healthy family members for recovery support following project exit and identify community mentors when possible.
The successful candidate will have Bachelor’s degree in behavioral health or related field, one year of experience working with AN/AI population and experience providing culturally specific services, one year of lived experience with homelessness, substance abuse, and/or co-occurring disorder. A combination of experience, education, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may substitute for degree requirements.
