Responsible to ensure that all recreational activities are accomplished in a safe and orderly manner for the Parks & Recreation Department. Leads the development and implementation of recreational programming. Provides supervision and direction to staff when the Facility Supervisor is not present. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
1. Provide on-site technical direction of work production to lower-level positions. 2. Provide recreational aquatic activities for children and youth, adults, and persons with disabilities. Prepare daily and monthly lesson plans for all assigned swim classes.3. Issue passes for recreational programs and monitor/enforce proper safety rules in the swimming pool.4. Provide routine clean up and general maintenance of locker rooms and natatorium seating and perform custodial duties.5. Clean, repair , and maintain chemical feed systems and pool equipment. Perform State of Alaska-required pool water testing: calculate, mix and add chemicals while wearing required safety gear.6. Perform lifeguard duties. Supervise and respond to all manner of emergency situations. 7. Inspect facilities to detect and report damage or safety concerns. Monitor and maintain chemical systems to ensure pool safety.8. Inform participants of facility rules and ensure that scheduled activities are enforced. Respond to patrons' questions/needs and refer to the manager when appropriate.9. Responsible for checking patrons in and out of locker rooms on sign-up sheets.10. Assist in the setup and take down of facilities for special events at the swimming pool and tennis courts.11. Open facilities for daily activities; secure and close facilities. Complete daily attendance and revenue reports as required. Balance change fund and reconcile with deposits at end of shift.12. Plan, organize, and implement special events and recreational programs.13. Register participants and communicate with parents, teachers, care providers, and organizations concerning individuals, programs, and events. Evaluate students for proper placement in swim programs. Teach learn to swim and other aquatic lessons. 14. Operate a point-of-sale system, process cash, check, and credit card sales and take facility reservations using recreation scheduling software. Build and maintain online facility programs and schedules and troubleshoot software issues

Frequent contacts involving outside organizations/agencies.JOB RESPONSIBILITY: Supervisory responsibilities: directs the workflow of permanent, temporary, seasonal, and volunteers; many minor problems daily, and an occasional major one where a supervisor may not be present, must use own initiative in handling most problems; the consequences of error, carelessness or mistaken judgment require serious effort to recover or may not be recoverable.WORK ENVIRONMENT: A recreational facility where conditions are somewhat disagreeable with occasional heat, cold, wet, moist, etc; up to ½ time is spent standing or walking where accidents/hazards are minor health hazards and minor accident probability; requires short periods of moderate lifting, pushing or pulling (26-50 lbs) Must be able to spend extended time periods in the pool. This position falls under the Borough’s Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP) Exposure Control Program as it is reasonably anticipated that infrequent exposure to blood or other bodily fluids may occur while performing some job duties.
