The Pool Attendant training program is designed to provide instruction and on-the-job training for individuals age 16 and older selected into the program. The Program will be advertised externally; those considered for the program will be interviewed and are required to pass the swim proficiency test prior to being placed into the program. A maximum of ten (10) individuals will be selected to participate in the training program.The program will consist of initial training for: Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, and Waterpark Lifeguarding The Borough will pay all associated training costs. Program participants will be hired by the Borough and paid $ 16.00/hr. while attending training, which will last approximately six weeks. Program participants who do not satisfactorily complete the training or do not obtain required certifications will be dropped from the program and terminated from employment with the Borough. Program participants who successfully complete all required certifications will be hired as a casual (temporary) employee and will be assigned to work with other trained staff to complete a new-hire checklist. Trainees may be assigned to different swimming pools as needed. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
1. Enforce safety rules in a polite but consistent manner. 2. Present aquatic instructional programs to a wide variety of community members, using a prepared lesson plan. 3. Perform lifesaving and first aid procedures as appropriate for the situation.4. Provide routine clean-up, sanitizing, and general maintenance in pool and locker room areas.5. Provide office support including cash handling activities, make change and operate a credit card machine.6 Operate the cash register with a point of sale, checking in patrons, selling passes, creating accounts and keeping a tally sheet of users in the building.

JOB CONTACTS: Ordinary business contact with employees in own division and continuous, routine public contact.JOB RESPONSIBILITY: Does not supervise; performs mostly routine duties with a few minor problems that must be resolved with supervisor’s assistance; the consequences of error, carelessness, or mistaken judgment require minimal effort to recover.WORK ENVIRONMENT: A recreation facility where conditions are pleasant; good, clean conditions with minor accident probability; requires short periods of moderate lifting, pushing or pulling (26-50 18.84lbs.). Expected to spend a considerable amount of time in treated pool water conducting swimming lessons.This position falls under the Borough’s Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP) Exposure Control Program as it is reasonably anticipated that infrequent exposure to blood or other bodily fluids may occur while performing some job duties.
