- Must possess or be able to obtain a current State of Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certification with a librarian endorsement.
- Technology skills with experience in computerized and web-based library management systems and database searching and other digital and social media resources.
- Working knowledge with Internet searching and instruction in online reference searching.
- Ability to successfully build and foster relationships with colleagues, administration, parents, and school communities based on professional respect.
- Must be comfortable working with middle and high school students.
- Ability to create a welcoming and engaging environment conducive to learning.
- Ability to promote literature and assist students in connecting with library resources of interest in order to encourage reading and research.
- Must have the ability to work independently, coping with continual interruptions, shifting job priorities, and under stressful conditions.

- Must possess the ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs and plan and implement professional development for teachers.

Job Summary: The secondary librarian is responsible for the development and implementation of an ongoing instructional program, that ensures students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. Provides for the informational needs of students and staff on a building level in support of the district curriculum and empowers students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers and ethical users of information.
