- Must meet federally highly qualified requirements: 48 hours of college credit, an associate degree, or a passing score on the ParaPro assessment.
- Two (2) years of experience working with special education professionals in a consultative or training capacity.
- Two (2) years of experience working with special needs students in an educational setting.
- Current certification as a trainer in crisis prevention, de-escalation, and intervention, or a willingness to complete a trainer-of-trainers program.
- Current certification as a CPR/First Aid instructor or the ability to obtain within the first six months of employment.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the duties outlined for this position.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively and consistently with students and staff.
- Ability to safely restrain students who present a danger to themselves or others.
- Valid Alaska driver’s license, vehicle insurance, access to a personal vehicle, and an ability to access military installations.
- Excellent presentation and public speaking skills, with confidence in training delivery.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.

Job Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of Special Education or designee, the Special Education Instructional Support Specialist will provide training to relevant staff using evidence-based behavioral and instructional strategies. This position requires the ability to work independently while assisting in the development and facilitation of training sessions and workshops for special education staff.
New Hire Hourly Rate: Grade 11: $29.57 - $33.17 DOE
Internal Transfer Hourly Rate: Determined by the ESSA Negotiated Agreement
Work day: 7 hours
Work year: 10 months
