Basic Function
Incumbent is responsible for maintaining, developing, and protecting Borough park facilities. The position requires the ability to maintain good public relations with park visitors and extensive knowledge in park operations. All assignments involve responsibility for the safe use of equipment or tools and the safety of others in the immediate area.

POSITIONS SUPERVISED : Park Ranger Aides
Typical Duties
1. Enforcement of park rules and regulations.
2. Assist park visitors in promoting their safety, welfare, and enjoyment of park facilities.
3. Building, facility, and campsite maintenance / construction including trash collection and restroom cleaning.
4. Oversee daily field operations of several recreation facilities as assigned.
5. Assist in camp registration, collection of fees, and provide information to visitors.
6. Operate and maintain light duty equipment.
7. Check timesheets for accuracy prior to submittal to supervisor.
8. Maintain and improve trail systems and recreation area facilities.
9. Assist with emergency situations.
10. Supervise Ranger Aides.
Position Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
1. High School Diploma or equivalent. One season experience in maintenance of park facilities and grounds or a satisfactory combination of experience and training.
2. One (1) year professional experience dealing with the public. Ability to effectively deal with public inquiries, complaints, etc.
3. Must possess and maintain current Standard First Aid, Adult and Child CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications as recognized by the American Red Cross (or equivalent). (ORIGINAL CERTIFICATIONS MUST BE PROVIDED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE.)
4. Must have and be able to maintain a valid driver's license. Must meet insurance standards and maintain insurability under the Borough's insurance program. If personal automobile is used for Borough business, proof of automobile insurance at statutory limits must be provided. (A CURRENT COPY OF DRIVING RECORD WILL BE REQUIRED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW.)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of park management and / or law enforcement is preferred.
2. Knowledge and ability to perform rough carpentry and light maintenance is preferred.
3. Experience in firefighting, public safety or emergency response is preferred.
4. Ability to safely and efficiently operate and maintain a variety of equipment.
5. Ability and willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
6. Able to work independently, displaying initiative and utilizing independent judgment.
OTHER
1. This position requires a criminal background investigation and fingerprinting.
2. A PROFICIENCY TEST MAY BE ADMINISTERED.

Ordinary business contact with employees in own division, and continuous routine public contact. Contact with law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency management personnel. May have contact with Army Corps of Engineers.
JOB RESPONSIBILITY :
Supervisor responsibilities : directs work flow of permanent / temporary / seasonal / volunteers, experiences minor problems daily and occasional major ones that must be resolved on own initiative with little immediate supervision; the consequences of error, carelessness or mistaken judgment require normal effort to recover.
For the purpose of this job description, "supervisor" means providing technical work direction and oversight. It does not include the ability to employ, promote, transfer, evaluate performance, discipline, suspend, discharge or adjudicate grievances; those are management responsibilities handled by the manager / director level.
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Works in an outdoor environment and in somewhat disagreeable temperatures on a somewhat continuous basis; requires sustained periods of heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling (up to 75 lbs.).
This position falls under the Borough's Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP) Exposure Control Program as it is reasonably anticipated that infrequent exposure to blood or other bodily fluids may occur while performing some job duties.
