JOB DESCRIPTION FOR NURSE SUPERVISOR: LPN
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Nursing
JOB SUMMARY: Ensures that the quality of direct care is provided according to established policies and standards. Interprets and implements physician's orders for care. Evaluates the residents' behavior and assesses their abilities in relation to their physical and developmental needs and
checks these evaluations with the assessments made by other personnel, studies the group structure and its impact upon behavior and physical care. Observes and evaluates interpersonal relationships among residents and employees. Reviews information from other disciplines.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
1. Is responsible for direct care given when he/she is on duty.
2. Is responsible for the administration of medications and treatments and observes responses of residents to drugs and treatments given.
A. If LPN/RN is responsible for administration of medication on day shift, they shall spend 55% of total time for direct care of residents.
B. LPN/RN responsible for medication administration on evening shift shall spend 55% of total time for direct care to residents.
C. LPN/RN working on night shift shall spend all but 15 minutes to total time providing direct care to residents.
3. Supervises and evaluates work performance.
4. Observes residents to verify that maximum direct care is being provided and notes and changes in residents' condition.
5. Provides DON with information regarding conditions of residents, accidents, illness and other events.
6. Helps maintain the self-respect, personal dignity, and physical and emotional safety of each resident.
7. Helps coordinate nursing activities with the activities and social services programs.
8. Assists physicians during their visits in the home.
9. Assists in accompanying residents on office visits outside the home and actively participates in prescribed course of treatment.
10. Administers emergency first aid.
11. Sees that equipment is kept in good repair and that supplies are readily available.
12. Prepares treatment trays, instruments, and equipment.
13. Helps orient new nursing personnel.
14. Gives direct "hands on" care to residents.
15. Helps DON pan, organize and provide in-service programs for the nursing staff.
16. Provides guidance and on-the-job training for nurse aides and medication aides.
17. Supervises the maintenance of the residents' clinical records.
18. Receives and assists visitors in a friendly manner.
19. Performs other duties as assigned.
