Under general supervision, this position operates a motor vehicle delivering materials and supplies. Performs tasks related to shipping, receiving and physical inventory; and performs related work as required. Performs operational checks and repairs on specialized small firefighting tools and equipment, e.g., power saws, generators, hose, and nozzles. Makes basic repairs and/or processes equipment for delivery/pickup to contract vendor. Assists with the coordination of deliveries and pick-ups from outside venders, Fairfax County government warehouse, and other locations. Provides rotating on-call coverage for after-hours logistics capability. Responds to emergency incident scene, Department Operating Center (DOC), or the county Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during catastrophic emergencies and performs National Incident Management System (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS) duties within the Logistics Section. Duties include operating in the organization's supply unit, procuring goods and services using normal and emergency procurement processes, and maintaining detailed reports and audit activities during the emergency period

- Participates and/or supervises the off/on loading of supplies and equipment for delivery and storage;
- Operates a truck in making deliveries of supplies and equipment to designated locations;
- Moves supplies and equipment manually or by using mechanized and non-mechanized materials handling equipment, i.e., forklifts, motorized pallet jacks, carts and dollies;
- Performs operator preventive maintenance and servicing of assigned vehicle and equipment and reports unsafe operating conditions;
- Assists in unpacking and storing bin and bulk storage items;
- Packs and/or marks stock items for shipment;
- Stores, stows, and organizes items in storage areas;
- Performs physical inventory, cycle counts and spot checks;
- Reports inventory discrepancies;
- Assists with shipping and receiving;
- Plans efficient routes for deliveries;
- Communicates with dispatcher to ensure efficient delivery;
- Performs basic data entry for record keeping and reporting functions.
- Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

- Ability to operate a motor vehicle;
- Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks including lifting, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions;

- Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to: High school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education, plus six months of experience equivalent to Material Management Assistant.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with repairs to small equipment and tools specific to the fire service.
- Experience with installation of appliances.
- Experience with warehouse operations.
- Experience with forklift operations.
- Previous driving experience to include large box trucks and trailers.
- CDL - Class B (VA).
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:- Driver's License (Required)
- Forklift Safety Training Certificate (Required within 6 months)
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to the position will be required to complete a criminal background check, sanctions screening, and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift 75 pounds. Ability to use hand truck, pallet jack and lift truck. Must be able to bend, stoop, stand, and sit for long periods of time. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.SELECTION PROCEDURE:
