Job Announcement

10,000 Sign-On Bonus

Provides direct treatment and medical support for residents residing in the Fairfax Detoxification Center. Under Supervision of a nursing supervisor or medical provider, LPN functions as a resource on medical issues for non-medical personnel. Serves as the liaison to community resource pharmacy and community medical providers. Provides clinical collaboration with physicians / medical staff and the mental health treatment team regarding medical support services to clients. Behavioral Health LPN provides assessment, outreach, support services, crisis intervention, education, and life skills training to Fairfax County citizens who are seriously mentally ill or those with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders.

Conducts and gathers relevant research information on medical services and educates program staff. Provides accurate and timely written documentation on clients and the program. Visually observes physical appearance of clients and monitors their behaviors. Encourages clients / compliance with program rules and expectations. This position is designated emergency services personnel and is expected to report for duty even in cases of inclement weather. Conducts face to face services such as injections, body mass index checks, medication monitoring, all based on regulations. Conducts oral checks ensure client is not diverting medication via unseen oral areas. Provides vitals several times per day visual body searches in small areas, while providing physical support to intoxicated clients / residents. Provides monitored urine testing in restrooms. Serves as the liaison to community resource pharmacy and community medical providers. Provides clinical collaboration with physicians / medical staff and the mental health treatment team regarding medical support services to clients.

Work hours : Overnight shift, (10pm-8am), 4 nights a week, with alternating weekends

  • Provides nursing services to individuals and / or families in clinics, ambulatory care centers, offices, or community settings;
  • Administers medications and performs treatments;
  • Solicits contraindications and medical history prior to each injection;
  • Assists in pharmacy organization;
  • Performs necessary laboratory tests and / or specimen collections per agency protocol (e.g., venipuncture; finger, foot, and heel stick; blood pressure checks; and urine testing);
  • Records and reports testing and specimen collection findings;
  • Maintains a neat clinic area, assuring supply room is properly stocked and organized and that equipment is cleaned, sterilized and maintained in good working order.

  • Ability to elicit sufficient pertinent medical information from a client and record a medical history that is complete and accurate;

    Employment Standards

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing program; plus two years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

    CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED :

  • Possession of current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Commonwealth of Virginia;
  • CPR / First Aid certifications - within 3 months of hire

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT :

  • The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry check, and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. A TB screening upon hire and annually thereafter.
  • This position is emergency / essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and / or other emergencies.)

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • LPN experience in a behavioral health nursing setting providing services to adults and youth with mental health, substance use, and intellectual disabilities in a fast-paced and multi-culturally diverse medication clinic.
  • Practical experience working in behavioral health and other health care settings.

    Experience with service delivery to individuals with mental health, substance abuse, or developmental disabilities.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

    Ability to physically organize, sort, store, deliver medications, and administer injections; communicate with ethnically diverse consumers who have mental health / developmental disabilities / substance abuse special needs; read and record medication orders; take vital signs; use keyboard to enter data in electronic health record; and utilize a computer. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
