What are the responsibilities and job description for the SUMMER INTERN- Cyber Security Aide position at Fairfax Water?
Under the supervision Cybersecurity, Networking, Datacenter and Unified Communication Supervisor, IT Security Aide will assist security team in day-to-day security operations and supports the cybersecurity team in protecting and securing network infrastructure, systems, and data. This role focuses on cybersecurity operations, threat monitoring, and security compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with monitoring and responding to security alerts, incidents, and potential threats in real-time.
- Support vulnerability assessments and participate in remediation efforts for identified security gaps.
- Conduct basic analysis of security logs, network traffic, and system activities to identify suspicious behavior.
- Assist with access management by reviewing and updating user permissions and roles based on security protocols.
- Contribute to security awareness initiatives by helping prepare and deliver cybersecurity training for end users.
- Stay current on cybersecurity trends and assist in identifying new threats and mitigation strategies.
Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
- Basic understanding of computers and networking
- Familiarity with cybersecurity tools and platforms (firewalls, IDPS, SIEM, etc.).
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience.
- Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive data.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
- Working knowledge of Windows 10 and Windows 11
- Enrolled as a full-time student at a college, university, or trade school for the upcoming fall to qualify for the program.
- Possess a valid driver's license in good standing.
- Pass a background investigation and pre-employment drug screening.
