What are the responsibilities and job description for the SUMMER INTERN - Mechanical Maintenance Aide position at Fairfax Water?
Under the supervision of Supervisor, Mechanical Maintenance, the Mechanical Maintenance Aide provides support to the Mechanical Maintenance team. The Mechanical Maintenance Aide is responsible for assisting with pump station and other facility checks, maintenance of water main easements, and other mechanical duties as assigned. In return, the Mechanical Maintenance Aide will receive hands-on exposure to a maintenance of mechanical equipment, including pumps and control valves.
- Field locate Fairfax Water Transmission main assets along the right of way and within easements.
- Operate brush cutting equipment to include trimmers, hedgers, and mowers.
- Assist with facility maintenance ensuring the facilities are kept in an orderly manner.
- Assist with cosmetic and structural maintenance repair.
- Utilize as-builts, tape measures, and metal detectors to find buried assets such as water main valve boxes, cathodic test station boxes, and air release covers.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Position Hours, Monday-Friday 6:30am-3:00pm
- Ability to keep records and make reports.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to perform manual physical labor that may include long periods of standing, bending, twisting, stooping and climbing.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Enrolled as a full-time student at a college, university, or trade school for the upcoming fall.
- Possess a valid driver's license in good standing.
- Pass a background investigation and pre-employment drug screening.
- Follow specific safety requirements
- Ability to use standard Microsoft Office software
