What are the responsibilities and job description for the SUMMER INTERN - Technical Services Aide position at Fairfax Water?
Under the supervision of Manager of Planning, the Technical Services Aide provides technical support to the Technical Services team. The Technical Services Aide is responsible for assisting with duties related to maintenance of enterprise GIS data, and various other duties as assigned. In return, the Technical Services Aide will receive hands-on exposure to the inner workings of a water utility GIS department.
- Researching documents, land records and as-builts relating to water facilities.
- Preparing schematics and other graphical representations of water facilities.
- Assistance and support for the data review of auto-generated water service laterals.
- Support the data collection and review of Global Positioning System (GPS) data points and assist with linking as-builts drawings to Fairfax Water's existing system maps.
- Familiarity with ESRI's ArcGIS or ArcGIS Pro software.
- Ability to read and interpret water system maps and construction plans and relating them to existing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data.
- A general knowledge of Microsoft Office products is required.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Enrolled as a full-time student at a college, university, or trade school for the upcoming fall to qualify for the program.
- Possess a valid driver's license in good standing.
- Pass a background investigation and pre-employment drug screening.
