Job Position: Grounds Keeper
Supervisor: Director of Operations
Terms of Employment: Salary, hours and work year to be established by the Superintendent with approval of the Board of Education.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent, Must clear state criminal record check and child abuse check,
Ability to positively interact with support staff/district employees and community members,
Ability to meet deadlines, Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Equipment/Tools:
Hand tools: pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers, drills, saws
Grounds: leaf blowers, rakes, lawn tractors, lawn mowers, garden tractor with blade, snow blowers, snow shovels, salt spreaders, ice chippers, hoses
Miscellaneous: floor fans, dehumidifiers, washer and dryer, portable signs, computer, two-way radios and/or cell phones
- Safely use chemicals (with recognized inhalation and absorption hazards) and all required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Work in controlled building environments as well as in extreme indoor and outdoor temperatures to include heat and cold, high or low humidity, noisy and dusty environments
- Operate hand and small power tools and equipment requiring grip force up to 40 pounds (in one or both hands) and frequent grip strengths between 5 and 40 pounds
- To complete a variety of custodial tasks, repetitive and sustained bending at the waist and stooping may occur during shifts, up to 5 minutes at a time
- Valid (state) driver’s license with no moving violations on motor vehicle record (MVR) and insurability by the district’s insurance carrier may be required
- Empty and clean trash receptacles outside buildings, Pick up paper and other debris on grounds
- Maintain district grounds by performing lawn mowing and trimming sidewalks and curbing
- Maintain district landscaping in an attractive and detailed manner. Trim bushes and trees and cut dead trees down. Blow and sweep sidewalks, parking lots, tennis court and other assigned areas.
- Maintain athletic fields and prepare them for events.
- Operate a variety of district vehicles and equipment.
- Inspect equipment for safe and proper operations.
- Monitor and inspect district sprinkler systems which include repairing sprinkler and irrigation pipes.
- Order and maintain inventory of parts for equipment.
- Perform snow removal from parking lot, play areas and sidewalks when needed.
- Add ice melt when needed.
- Perform light maintenance including carpentry, plumbing and HVAC.
- Maintain and repair parking lots as needed such as painting, fixing pot holes, repair curbing, etc.
- Report needed repair work to facilities director
- Wear proper work attire and equipment for protection such as safety glasses, hearing protection, face masks, etc. when needed.
- Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision.
- Must maintain confidentiality on all issues relating to students and staff.
- Must be able to work and communicate with students and staff.
- Must treat students and staff with courteous manner and respect at all times.
- May work weekends and different hours as needed.
- Respond to emergency calls outside normal working hours.
- Will be on a rotating call schedule.
- Perform other duties as assigned by facilities director.
- Manages one’s own time efficiently and can also work as a team member with co-workers
- Attends in-service safety training and school meetings as required
- Adheres to applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations, safety standards, board policies and administrative rules.
- Use of proximity cards will be used to enter each building.
