Qualifications:
●Two years of study at an institution of higher education; an associate degree or higher; or passing score on ETS Parapro Assessment.
●Experience working with students, preferred.
●Valid ESEA endorsed Educational Aide Permit.
●Required criminal background check.
●Meets USCIS I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification.
●Appointment will require successful completion of online courses and/or in-person training in areas such as, but not limited to: communicable disease, child abuse, CPR, first aid, student privacy, crisis prevention intervention, behavioral management.

Job Goal:
Assist teachers with classroom instruction and monitor students as assigned. Provide support to the teacher/staff so children may meet their individual educational objectives and/or achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole. Effectively assist the teacher in managing the classroom and individual students’ behavior to maintain a good learning environment.
Performance Responsibilities:
1.Continuously demonstrate a sincere desire to actively engage all students.
2.Assists the teacher with the daily preparation, care and organization of equipment and materials for classroom instruction.
3.Assists the classroom teacher in the implementation of each child’s individual education and or behavioral Intervention plan.
4.Assists students with mobility, medical, physical and clothing needs such as positioning, feeding, toileting, diapering, and getting on and off transportation vehicles (if necessary).
5.Maintaining a classroom environment conducive to learning and free of health and safety hazards.
6.Works with students both individually and in small groups.
7.Assists with, but not limited to, recess supervision, restroom breaks, assemblies, emergency drills, and in other in-school non-classroom locations.
8.Helps students operate computers and/or other specialized equipment.
9.Assists the teacher with collection of progress monitoring data.
10.Assists in social and extracurricular activities during school hours.
11.Provides appropriate motivation and reinforcement with the children.
12.Attends parent and staff meetings as requested by the parent, teacher or supervisor.
13.Attends professional growth training sessions and initiates independent study (as necessary).
14.Alerts the teacher first, then supervisor, to any problem or information concerning an individual student.
15.Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of licensed individuals.
16.Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work assigned by the teacher.
17.Provides other health/care needs, as necessary
18.Maintains district standards of dress, conduct, and parent/staff interactions.
19.Exercises self-control and perseverance when dealing with students
20.Performs other school-related duties at the request of the classroom teacher or as approved and/or assigned by the Fairfield County ESC Supervisor or Superintendent/Designee.
21.Complies with policies and procedures established by the Fairfield County ESC and the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators.
22. Follow the district of placement guidelines, follow their academic calendar, as well as their arrival and dismissal times.
23.Understand and implement student safety plans and behavior plans.
24.Follow the teacher's lead in maintaining consistency in the classroom.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Attitudes, and Other Responsibilities:
1.Maintain a regular schedule of attendance with the knowledge of how staff absences affect students we serve.

7.Assist in registration of students, as necessary.

9.Assist with classroom inventories.

11.Must be able to work as a team player, being able to take directions from the teacher but also the ability to exercise independent judgment in the absence of the teacher.
12.Fully understands and abides by the Ohio Revised Codes regulations for reporting child abuse/or neglect.
Additional Working Conditions:
1.Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
2.Occasional operation of personal vehicle under inclement weather conditions
3.Occasional alternative/flexible hours/ calamity days.
4.Occasional travel.
5.Occasional interruption of duties by staff and/or telephone.
6.May be frequently interacting with aggressive, disruptive and/or unruly students, and may need to assist with behavior management, including possible elopement. (fleeing students)
7.Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching above shoulders and moving/lifting amounts of up to 50 lbs
8.Accompany students on all field trips, (ESC classroom/General Education classrooms), including toileting/changing diapers and feeding.
9.Be aware of the possibility of being moved to another ESC classroom in another district, or the possibility of becoming a floating para in several classrooms in a building.
