Description
Reporting to the Fairfield County Veterans Commission Board Members, the Board of County Commissioners, and Ohio Department of Veterans Services on required responsibilities. Perform the administrative duties of the Veterans Service Office, and to assist qualified veterans file claims with the Veterans Administration (VA) for various benefits.
Duties
- Responsible for the office and office staff, drivers, payroll, scheduling, budgets, resolutions, training, all outreach programs, advertisement, web page and assignment of duties
- Requests hearing before government boards and presents case
- Reviews board decisions for grounds for appeal
- Acquaint news media with current activities and legislation changes pertaining to veterans and dependents
- Attend training and or online schooling to maintain accreditations with ODVS and Fairfield County is required.
- Attend county round table meetings and other county meetings or send a representative.
- Advise veterans on insurance, loans, education, and other matters, working in cooperation with the Veterans Administration and other government agencies
- Participates in, or initiates, civic functions, such as panel discussions and mass communication programs, to inform the public of services rendered and rights and benefits of veterans and dependents
- Offer advice at group meetings concerning County, State, and Federal benefits.
- Advises and aids veterans or their dependents in presenting disability, insurance, or pension claims for benefits under Federal, State, and local laws
- Evaluates and determines validity of claims by reviewing legislation, regulations, precedents, and by studying the veteran's medical reports and service history
- Help claimants obtain power of attorney on their claim
- Prepares claim forms and briefs (statements in support) and assembles pertinent evidence.
- Have a working knowledge of the county's MUNIS system
