SPECIFICIATIONS:Provides assistive technology services for individuals who have developmental disabilities that specifically impact communication, so they may have a means to communicate and participate in their home, school, work or community environments in order to lead fulfilling lives and make meaning contributions. The employee works with considerable independence, receiving general professional directions from the Assistive Technology Coordinator. As an employee of the Fairfield County Board of Developmental Disabilities, the job incumbent shall comply with all Board policies at all times, and shall demonstrate respect for, support the dignity of, and observe the rights of all individuals served by the agency.Duties

Communication Assistive Tech Assessment & RecommendationFacilitate the process of identifying communication-focused assistive technology devices and services to allow individuals who have a developmental disability to more fully communicate and participate in activities in their home, school, work or community environments.Assess, write reports, and make recommendations regarding the selection, modification and implementation of Communication AT devices and services to individuals through-out the entire life-span, within their natural environments (home, school, work, community settings).Make recommendations regarding the purchase, repair, and replacement of Communication AT devices.Coordinate and assist in locating available funding sources to purchase individual AT systems/equipment, when needed/preferred equipment is not reimbursable through individual insurance funding (ex. grants, donations).Act as a resource person to share and/or loan software and equipment and provide information regarding how to access these items for preview or purchase.Make referrals to other disciplines to assist in AT assessments/recommendations.15%
IFSP, IEP or ISP Team InvolvementFunction as amember of IFSP, IEP and/or ISP teams in providing comprehensive AT services to individuals with disabilities as requested. Oversee direct and indirect communication focused AT services as specified on individual plans.Coordinate the delivery of Communication focused AT services with parents, classroom teachers, natural supports and/or HPC providers to ensure continuity and consistency in providing comprehensive services to individuals.Provide SLP and/or AT services on IEP's when appropriate?Maintain an accurate record of services provided.Maintain an accurate record of equipment provided.30%
Implementation, Training & EducationEducate others on the importance of considering assistive technology options to enhance the lives of individuals and stay abreast of ever-evolving technology.
Complete set-up and custom programming of AT devices for communicationProvide training to individuals, parents, teachers, paraprofessionals, providers, natural supports, and others as appropriate, in assisting individuals with set up, use and maintenance of Communication related AT devices.Conduct Communication focused AT demonstrations, workshops and trainings for school district staff, providers, families, etc.Evaluate and maintain various types of Communication AT hardware, software, and peripheral equipment for preview, trial and evaluation purposes.Engaged in ongoing attendance at in-services, workshops, courses for professional developmental, especially to maintain current knowledge of available assistive technology to enhance communication.10%
