Under the supervision of the Dog Warden, the Shelter Attendant is responsible for the upkeep of all dogs at the shelter while maintaining cleanliness of the kennel and grounds. Ensures shelter safety by following standard operating procedures. Working Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9am-5pm; Tuesday, Thursday 11am-7pm; Saturday and Sunday 8am-4pm. Days off will be Tuesday/Wednesday or Wednesday/Thursday. Saturdays and Sundays are required. Must be able to work independently.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Maintains the cleanliness of kennels throughout the day. Walks kennel aisles and ensures that all kennels, walkways, and trench drains are mess-free always. Launders towels, beds, and other soiled articles. Disinfects shelter facilities including kennels, walkway, garage, adoption room, puppy room, and all public and non-public areas. Responsible for moving dogs, feeding and watering dogs, and bathing dogs as requested. Helps to supervise interns and volunteers. Administers shelter intake exams, vaccinations, medications and documents all medical procedures with authorization from the Dog Warden. Provides customer service through stray identification and verification, adoption interactions, dog-dog interactions, adoption counseling and follow-ups. Provides dog enrichment including but not limited to: daily walking and exercising dogs which may be 60 #, supervising dog play groups, working on basic obedience training, daily routines of tactile, scent, oral, auditory and visual enrichment. Utilize various tools and equipment to provide proper stimulation and education.
