Job Description:
The Radiation Oncology Medical Office Specialist plays an integral role in patient experience and the revenue cycle. Working independently in a team environment, this individual ensures an accurate, efficient and complete patient registration and scheduling process in a patient-focused manner. Schedules appointments and informs patients of test preparations.
- Performs general receptionists duties.
- Performs general registration duties.
- Performs general scheduling duties.
- Intermediate understanding of healthcare revenue cycle and the associated variables that can impact claims and reimbursement.
- Understanding of CPT and ICD-10 coding, and medical terminology.
- Develops and maintains adequate working knowledge of EMR (electronic medical record), basic office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, use of the internet and other applicable systems.
- Understands the critical nature of a cancer center and approach job and responsibilities with a sense of caring and urgency.
- Assists with patient care duties when necessary, including but not limited to: admitting/rooming patients for clinic visits; Taking and recording temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, weight and height; providing the patient with discharge instruction paperwork.
Qualifications
Job Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent required, 2 year Associate Degree in Office Administration or A.R.T. preferred.
- Experience in physician office or similar health care field preferred.
Exerting up to 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible up to 10 pounds amount of force often.
