Fairfield College Preparatory School, an all-boys Jesuit, Catholic high school of excellence located on the campus of Fairfield University for students in ninth through twelfth grade, is currently accepting applications for a Learning Specialist (ten-month position)

Department: Academic Support

Reports To: Director of Academic Support

Basic Function: Provide learning support and instruction to students with diverse learning needs in individual and small group settings

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Secondary or Special Education. Master’s degree or the current pursuit of a Master’s Degree is preferred.

• Extensive knowledge of learning differences and effective teaching practices for students with disabilities

• Knowledge of relevant technology and other resources to aid student learning

• Familiarity with Individualized Education Plans and 504 Accommodation Plans

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, and school administration

Essential Functions:

• Provide one-to-one and small group instruction for students with diverse learning needs, building skills in essential functions including basic reading, writing, math, and study skills

• Help students to develop effective learning strategies that promote academic growth

• Use school platforms (PrepConnect, Schoology) to track student work and identify areas of need

• Regularly assess student progress and determine the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques

• Provide frequent communication with parents to support academic progress at home

• Help students utilize assistive technology and other resources to facilitate learning

• Provide consultation to classroom teachers regarding instructional interventions and accommodations to meet the needs of students with disabilities

• Engage in ongoing professional development to keep up to date on best teaching practices, effective strategies and resources for students with learning needs

• Work in collaboration with the Director of Academic Support to identify and remediate student learning issues as they arise

• Assist in developing appropriate interventions for a broader group of students who are struggling to make sufficient academic progress

• Provide regular updates to administration regarding student progress.
