ASSISTANT MAINTENANCE EMPLOYEE
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of General Cleaning Procedures
- Ability to Successfully Perform Duties Assigned
- Knowledge of electric, plumbing, carpentry and HVAC systems preferred
- Ability to perform multiple technical tasks and operate a variety of equipment
- Possess and maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license, CDL preferred
- Sufficient physical stamina to lift and carry items up to 75 pounds as required for the duties of the job.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent, Building Principal, Director of Maintenance, Head of
Maintenance, and Maintenance Employee
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain general cleanliness of the physical plant and grounds and insure a healthful and educational environment.
- Responsible for building security.
- Responsible for meeting safety requirements
- Inform the building principal of problem areas which may arise.
- Cooperate with other staff members to insure an atmosphere of mutual respect and professional harmony within the school.
- Perform such additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the administration to insure efficient and effective operation of the building.
- Complete all necessary physical preparations for special activities as assigned by the administration.
- Perform regular maintenance duties established for the shift assigned during the school year and during the summer, including but not limited to:
- Responsible for cleanliness and sanitation of the building.
- Keep building free of all fire hazards.
- Sweep floors in designated room, mopping when needed.
- Remove waste paper and rubbish.
- Clean toilets, urinals, stools, lavatories and drinking fountains, disinfecting as needed.
- Clean door glass panes, window areas, light fixtures and replace bulbs as needed.
- Check and replenish soap, towel and toilet tissue dispensers.
- Keep drains clean and open.
- Assist in keeping lunchrooms in order including mopping cafeteria and kitchen areas.
- Dust and clean furniture, performing thorough cleaning and minor repairs during the summer.
- Take care of all emergencies and minor repairs, conducting routine maintenance checks and making adjustments as needed.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Consult regularly with maintenance personnel.
- Open the building at the beginning of the day.
- Responsible for overall cleaning of building during the summer.
- Responsible for stripping and refinishing all floors and assist with painting.
- Be available as scheduled for activities held in the building.
- Remove snow from steps, sidewalks as needed.
- Check water supplies as needed.
- Check lights and secure building at end of day.
Prepare requisitions for custodial materials and supplies necessary to maintain and operate the building and submit requisitions to building principal.
Promptly report necessary repair jobs that are outside maintenance jurisdiction to building principal and/or Director of Maintenance.
Assist maintenance personnel on special projects as directed by administration.
Assist with maintenance duties as requested for the purpose of facilitating completion of preventative maintenance required tasks.
Assist with monitoring and maintaining the boiler and other HVAC for the purpose of ensuring proper functioning and maintenance.
Perform preventative maintenance on district equipment and systems for the purpose of efficient system function.
Complete preventative maintenance work schedule request forms and data entry in a timely manner.
Practice safety, good housekeeping, fire code safety and preventative maintenance procedures for the purpose of maintaining a safe and comfortable learning environment.
Assist in the repairs of maintenance equipment; maintain equipment and document the repairs made for the purpose of keeping equipment in good working condition.
Respond to emergency equipment calls for purpose of completing required tasks.
Maintain district facilities for the purpose of safe and efficient operation.
Assist with the development and updating of an inventory list of maintenance equipment for the purpose of making these items available to school personnel.
Occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
Use a computer to maintain preventive maintenance records and to receive/send email messages as a means to communicate with staff.
Communicate in a positive professional manner at all times with personnel and the community for the purpose of maintaining good working relationships.
Perform other duties as assigned by Administration or Director of Maintenance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Pulling: Using upper extremities to drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion exerting
up to 100 pounds of force
Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally
from position to position through the use of the upper extremities and back muscles
exerting up to 100 pounds of force
Finger Dexterity: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers
rather than with the whole hand or arm
Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm
Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by
touching with the skin, particularly that of fingertips
Repetitive Motions: Substantial and continuous movements of the wrists, hands, and/or
fingers

quickly.
Hearing Acuity: The ability to perceive speech and other environmental sounds at normal

Visual Acuity: The power to see at a level which allows reading of numbers and text,
operation of equipment, inspection of machines, etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Indoors & Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities
occur inside and outside. Occasional operation of vehicle under inclement weather
conditions
Hazards: The worker is subject to hazards. This includes a variety of physical conditions,
such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding
and high places, and exposure to high heat or chemicals, and occasional exposure to
blood, body fluids, and tissue.
Aerial Lifts: Operate aerial lifts as necessary to perform maintenance tasks.
