What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Supervisor position at Fairfield University?
Job Description: The Lab Supervisor oversees the lab preparation for all microbiology and organismal biology labs in the biology curriculum, including lab planning in consultation with faculty, training and supervision of student lab assistants, preparation of reagents, set-up and break-down of supplies and equipment, care of the Biology department animals and any activities related to the ongoing operation of the labs. Labs will include the areas of microbiology, anatomy and physiology, ecology, and zoology. Responsibilities will also include instruction of one lab section each semester. (An option without teaching will be considered.) Requirements -Master’s Degree in Biology is required. (Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and equivalent experience is sufficient for the non-teaching option.) -A minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in a biology laboratory, academic setting, or similar environment is required. -Training in microbiology techniques and methodology is required, in addition to strong verbal and written communication skills, solid analytical skills, knowledge of statistics and research design, computer proficiency, and some supervisory experience. Familiarity with field biology methods, specimen identification and basic molecular methods, such as PCR is preferred. *Duties may be changed and/or be added at any time.
