Hispanic Center and First Gen Scholar Center Support Assistant provides advanced and diversified administrative support services for all the programs housed in the Hispanic Center including, but not limited to, Puerta Al Futuro, Latino Promise, HACER, Avanza a FDU, and the Middle School Pathways Program, as well as all Hispanic Center and First Gen Center related activities. Responsibilities include communication of the Hispanic Center’s policies, practices and procedures; coordination of daily office activity; purchasing; monitoring and maintaining various fiscal records, including payroll. The Support Assistant also supports student registration, processes online admissions applications, oversees the day-to-day work duties of student workers. Performs Spanish/English translation when necessary and must be able to interact with new, continuing, and prospective students and families in both English and Spanish.

1. High School degree required.
2. A minimum of three years of administrative experience required, preferably in a complex academic environment, including office oversight responsibilities, and experience with administrative and fiscal record keeping. Prior college/university experience a plus
3. Must be fully bilingual (English and Spanish) – read, write and speak fluent Spanish and English.
4. Must have experience interacting successfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds within the Hispanic community and a sensitivity to issues faced by current and prospective students in a university environment.
5. Personal computer proficiency for word processing, spreadsheets and data management. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) preferred. Experience with successful use of database applications, such as Datatel a plus. Ability to quickly learn new programs/applications.
6. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, ability to collaborate with others, problem solving ability, and organizational skills. Must be able to interact effectively with a wide range of individuals, both inside and outside the university community.
7. Valid driver’s license and accessibility to transportation for off-campus travel, as necessary.
8. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
