Job description

We are looking for hard-working, dependable, outgoing, and creative individuals to join our team. Flexible availability is preferred, and shifts could include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. (Read below for detailed job description).

Responsibilities of a Barista at Fairmount Coffee Co. include but are not limited to:

Customer Service

• Welcome customers by helping them determine their beverage and food interests and needs.
• Describe menu items including product details, such as coffee blend or preparation descriptions, or suggest products that might appeal to them.
• Take customer orders and convey them to other employees for preparation.
• Receive and process customer payments.
• Promote a culture of hospitality, one customer at a time.
• Engage with customers; ask about their day, get to know them, encourage them to come back.
• Answer phone as needed and respond to customer needs
• Has basic coffee knowledge.
• Has a willingness to learn about coffee, flavor profiles, and food pairings.
• Participate in opportunities such as training/workshops to learn more about the products offered at Fairmount Coffee Co.

Product Preparation

• Prepare and sell beverages by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques for each beverage.
• Prepare and serve a variety of menu items, such as coffee, tea, smoothies, other beverages, pastries and cookies, such as sandwiches or salads.
• Wrap, label, or date food items for sale.
• Slice fruits, vegetables, desserts, for use in food service.
• Restock supplies or retail products as needed.
• Set up or restock bakery displays.
• Cleanliness/Upkeep Clean or sanitize work areas, utensils, or equipment.
• Clean service or seating areas, including sweeping, mopping, and wiping counters and tables.
• Clean and restock bathrooms.
• Check temperatures of freezers, refrigerators, or heating equipment to ensure proper functioning.
• Take out garbage.
• Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and sanitation regulations.
• Perform other duties as instructed by manager or shift leader.

General

• Follow direction and instruction from shift supervisor or manager.
• Follow open-up and/or close-out procedures.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 17 years of age.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task.
• This position will require frequent standing and use of hands and arms.
• Must be able to lift up to 30lbs and frequently bend and twist from the waist.
• Regularly required to handle food, hot beverages, and work with sharp objects.
• Must obtain a Food Handler’s Card prior to beginning employment.
• Must have excellent verbal and written English communication skills
