POSITION SUMMARY:
Heritage Funeral Home is a high-volume, fast-paced funeral home seeking an energetic and hands-on General Manager to lead our exceptional team. This is not a behind-the-scenes leadership role – we need a working manager who thrives in a dynamic environment and is ready to roll up their sleeves. The right candidate will balance strong operational leadership with hands-on funeral service responsibilities, including meeting with families, embalming as needed, and performing removals. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational & Leadership Excellence
- Oversee and manage all daily operations of the funeral home and care center, ensuring efficiency, quality, and exceptional service.
- Lead by example as a funeral director and embalmer, stepping in as needed to support staff and serve families.
- Hire, train, and supervise a high-performing funeral home and care center team, ensuring staff are engaged and operating at their best.
- Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement within the organization.
Family & Client Services
- Serve as the face of Heritage Funeral Home, building strong relationships with families and ensuring compassionate, top-tier service.
- Guide families through funeral arrangements with professionalism and sensitivity, ensuring all needs are met.
- Handle escalated client concerns with grace and expertise, ensuring smooth conflict resolution.
Financial & Business Strategy
- Manage budgets, financial transactions, and revenue goals to ensure financial health and sustainability.
- Support the pre-arrangement program, working closely with the Director of Sales to drive business growth.
- Collaborate with marketing to develop strategies that enhance community engagement and brand visibility.
Compliance & Facility Management
- Ensure full compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations governing funeral services.
- Maintain a pristine, welcoming facility, including chapels, viewing rooms, crematory, and preparation areas.
- Oversee inventory management for caskets, urns, and other funeral products, ensuring a wide selection is available.
Crisis & Conflict Management
- Stay cool under pressure, handling unexpected situations with professionalism and composure.
- Be proficient in de-escalation tactics and conflict management to navigate difficult situations effectively.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Identify opportunities for efficiency and process enhancements, ensuring Heritage remains an industry leader.
- Uphold the highest ethical standards, maintaining the trust and confidence of our families and the community.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
- 5 years of experience as a Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer.
- 3 years of management experience in a high-volume funeral home preferred.
- Must hold (or be able to transfer) a State Funeral Service License.
- Active in community involvement and outreach.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and crisis-management skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This role requires hands-on participation in all aspects of funeral service, including embalming, first calls, family arrangements, cremation/retort operation, and removals. Work involves periods of standing, stooping, walking, and lifting objects up to 100 lbs. Fairmount Memorial Association promotes a drug/alcohol-free workplace, with mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing.
EMPLOYMENT AT-WILL:
Employment with Fairmount Holdings, Inc. is at-will, meaning either party may terminate the employment relationship at any time without cause or notice. No representative of the organization may alter this agreement except through a written document signed by:
- The President/CEO of Fairmount Holdings AND
- The Chairman of the Fairmount Memorial Association Board
