Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced IT Security Specialist to join the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) - Privacy and Security Office (PSO) on a one-year contract basis. This remote position offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the security architecture of the Child Welfare Information System (CWIS).

Key Responsibilities

• Assess and identify security vulnerabilities within the CWIS.
• Implement effective security controls to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Secure containerized environments and integrate security measures into workflows.
• Design and configure network security within a data center setting.
• Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  
  

Required Skills

• Profound knowledge of security principles, including secure coding practices and vulnerability management.
• Extensive experience with containerization technologies, specifically Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes (preferably Redhat OpenShift).
• Proven track record of securing containerized environments.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, PCI DSS) and experience in implementing necessary controls.
• Strong understanding of the OSI networking model and hands-on experience with network security configurations across layers 3, 4, and 7.
  
  

Qualifications

• Significant experience in IT security architecture, particularly in the context of containerization technologies.
• Relevant certifications such as Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) or AWS Certified Security Specialty are highly desirable.
