Job Overview

Job Summary:

The Accessibility Coordinator monitors, organizes implementation of, and facilitates issue resolution of compliance standards under the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Affordable Care Act Section 1557 within acute and ambulatory services, programs, and special events. This position must demonstrate strong decision making and problem-solving skills, understand the full range of theories, principles, terminology, and procedures regarding compliance processes and procedures. The Accessibilty Coordinator must understand and utilize advanced knowledge of municipal, state, and federal laws to evaluate service provision and promote equitable health care for the disability communities and communities who use a language other than English.

 

Job Expectations:

· Serves as the subject matter expert regarding American Disability Act (ADA) guidelines and their implementation and provides guidance to all levels of the organization.

· Monitors the organization's policies and procedures and participates in programming to ensure compliance with applicable ADA and ACA 1557 laws.

· Handles investigations, grievances, and manages requests for reasonable modifications to policies and procedures to ensure accessibility.

· Develop and implement training and awareness programs within the organization.

· Responds to inquiries and complaints from stakeholders concerning language access, disability rights, and communication access in collaboration with organizational partners.

· Identify gaps in services, information, education, and/or facilities regarding service needs for employees and patients and developing corrective action.

· Audit and monitor organization operations across acute and ambulatory service lines to ensure meaningful accessibility. This could include physical spaces, services, programs, and more.

· Partner with stakeholders to ensure that services and digital/telehealth content is accessible to all patients and their companions.

· Acts as a liaison between disability communities, communities whose preferred language is other than English, and the wider organization.

· Understands interdisciplinary collaboration.

· Identifies and utilizes appropriate resources.

· Develops comprehensive training curriculum and conducts internal and external awareness training and workshops in maintaining compliance.

· Shows the ability to communicate effectively in writing, collaboration, public-speaking, and listening to present information meaningfully.

· Understands the needs and priorities of disability communities and communities whose preferred language is something other than English.

· Provides patient education based on an assessment of learning needs of patient/care giver.

o Complies with and maintains knowledge of all relevant laws, regulation, policies, procedures and standards.

· Fosters a culture of improvement, efficiency and innovative thinking.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications to Fulfill Job Responsibilities:

 

Required

 

Education:

· Associate degree in Disability Studies, Social Sciences or other related/similar field or combination of related education and experience.

 

Experience:

· 3 years of professional experience as an ADA coordinator, Disability Rights, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility certificate, or similar including responding to inquiries/ complaints, conducting investigations and implementing successful resolutions.

· Extensive Knowledge of ADA regulations, codes, and guidelines.

· Extensive Knowledge of ACA 1557 regulations and guidelines.

· Experience developing and presenting training material.

· Experience conducting audits

· Strong communication, problem-solving and organizational skills.

· Ability to handle sensitive issues/information and maintain confidentiality.

· Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

 

Preferred

 

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Disability Studies, Social Sciences or other related/similar field or combination of related education and experience.

 

Experience:

· Five years of professional experience as an ADA coordinator, Disability Rights Coordinator, DEI(A) Certificate or related experience including responding to inquiries/complaints, conducting investigations and implementing successful resolutions.

Compensation Disclaimer

The posted pay range is for a 40-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). The actual rate of pay offered within this range may depend on several factors, such as FTE, skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions.
