What are the responsibilities and job description for the Diagnostic Laboratory Technologist position at Fairview Health Services?
Fairview Health Services has an exciting opportunity for a full time Diagnostic Laboratory Technologist (DLT) position at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center-East Bank in the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory (MDL). The MDL is a local leader in pioneering genomic technologies for the diagnosis and management of both inherited disease and cancer. This is a full-time day position with rotating weekends/holidays.
This DLT role will have diagnostic bench-work responsibilities including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR set-up and analysis, bone marrow engraftment testing, and sequencing for germline and somatic diseases using manual and automated methods. The DLT will also assist with the development, validation, and implementation of new clinical tests, equipment maintenance, quality improvements, and training of MLS students, staff, pathology residents, and clinical fellows.
The MDL serves a unique and diverse patient population with our hospital recognized as a national leader in areas like bone marrow transplantation. In addition, our hospital has also recently been established as a rare disease center of excellence. Our team of over 15 staff members perform highly specialized testing for inherited genetic disease, bone marrow engraftment, infectious disease, and malignant disease. Through our partnerships with clinical genetic counselors, molecular genetic pathologists, and bio-informaticists at University of Minnesota Health, we have developed and validated testing including comprehensive genomic tumor profiling and whole genome sequencing for patients with hereditary genetic diagnoses.

Responsibilities Job Description
The DLT functions independently in performing work responsibilities of professional laboratory practice. A DLT performs waived, moderate, or high complexity testing as defined by CLIA’88. The DLT possesses expertise of the clinical laboratory and performs routine clinical laboratory analysis, recognizes problems, identifies basic causes, and makes corrections using established protocols. The DLT correlates data based on knowledge of technical and instrumental conditions affecting test results and performs quality control procedures within established parameters and participates in laboratory performance improvement activities.
Qualifications
Required
Education
- Bachelor’s in a Chemistry or Biological sciences field with a minimum of 24 semester hours of science courses that include
- Six semester hours of chemistry and
- Six semester hours of biology and
- Twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination.
Preferred
Education
- Bachelor's degree in a related laboratory field including the related lab practicum or equivalent routes as specified in CLIA ’88.
- Experience in Molecular Pathology testing
