M Health Fairview is looking for an upbeat and energetic Registered Nurse for our Emergency Department at Fairview Ridges Hospital located in Burnsville, MN. The hospital is just 20 minutes south of Minneapolis, MN near the 35E and 35 W conjunctions! It has been providing state-of-the art care and community services to the residents of the scenic Minnesota Valley since 1984.
Our ED is a Level 3 Trauma Center. We have 45 beds and a yearly census of approximately 67,000 and growing! Team members include Board Certified Emergency Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, Registered Nurses, ER Techs, Health Unit Coordinators, transport, and Case Managers. Emergency Department Registered Nurses provide emergency nursing care for a diversified population of all age distributions (infant to geriatrics) and all problem types in a very lively Emergency Room.
The Fairview Ridges ER processes 67,000 cases per year, with an average of 184 patients seen daily. The position duties include assessment, care planning, interventions, and instructing. New positions added due to volumes/growth.
The patient population served by the Emergency Department consists of newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients requiring or seeking medical care. Twenty percent of our ED volume is pediatric.
Schedule: This position works 48 hours every two weeks, 12 hour shifts on days (7:00 am - 7:30pm) with every third weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday).
Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.
The Registered Nurse in the EDIN (Emergency Department Inpatient Nurse) position is responsible and accountable for monitoring and caring for inpatients who are admitted waiting for an inpatient bed. This role will provide med/surg nursing experience within the ED setting. After one year of experience in this role, the RN will have an opportunity to cross-train and transition into the emergency department. Willing to consider new grad RNs for this role.
- Assesses patient needs and identifies expected nursing outcomes.
- Involves the patient, family, and other health team members in gathering data.
- Uses an ongoing, systematic process to gather relevant information (biological, psychological, spiritual, and social aspects) from patient and family.
- Analyzes data and information to identify potential risks, prioritize needs and determine priority problems.
- Identifies outcomes that are age appropriate, culturally appropriate, realistic, and attainable.
- Validates these with patient, family, and other health team members.
- Documents data and identified outcomes.
- Develops an individualized nursing plan of care.
- Collaborates with patient, family, and other health team members to develop a nursing plan as part of an integrated, comprehensive plan of care
- Develops an individualized plan based on age, social and cultural considerations, condition, and other relevant needs.
- Determines nursing interventions based on identified needs.
- Identifies interdisciplinary resources needed to assist in implementing the nursing plan of care.
- Prioritizes interventions based on patient acuity, available resources, and patient/family preferences and needs.
- Documents and updates the plan of care to assure continuity throughout the continuum of care.
- Implements nursing interventions based on the plan of care.
- Provides care according to the plan, and in accordance with all relevant policies, procedures, and nursing practice guidelines.
- Coordinates nursing care with the care of all other health team members.
- Initiates age and culturally appropriate measures to support and meet patient needs while achieving expected outcomes.
- Initiates patient/family teaching as appropriate to age, readiness to learn and available resources.
- Collaborates, consults, or makes referrals if unable to perform safely and independently.
- Delegates direct and indirect patient care activities to appropriate personnel based on needs, condition, potential for risk/harm, complexity of the skill and predictability of the outcome.
- Assures all actions are based on scientific, ethical, or ecological principles; proven effectiveness; experience; practice standards; patient/family requests and values; or, legal parameters.
- Uses the full range of therapeutic modalities to support and augment the healing process, moving from least intensive and invasive to more, depending on need and context.
- Documents interventions according to practice guidelines.
- Anticipates, recognizes, and responds to emergent situations.
Required:
- MN RN License
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers
Preferred:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher
- Certification by Emergency Nurses Association (CEN) and/or Advanced Trauma Nursing (CATN)
- 1 year of emergency department, med/surg, or critical care experience
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months of hire
