What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Assistant position at Fairview Health Services?
Fairview Health Services is looking for a Laboratory Assistant for the Acute Care Laboratory at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center-East Bank. This is a fulltime position on the day shift, 6:30 am-3:00pm, primarily performing the duties of specimen delivery for the core lab to the specialty laboratories and other locations. This position will also perform sample tracking, receiving, ordering, processing, plus other specimen management duties as assigned.
Job expectations include:
- Follows established guidelines to obtain specimens and prioritize work
- Prioritizes work to achieve optimal patient outcomes
- Seeks assistance appropriately for problem or unusual situations
- Processes and dispatches reference laboratory samples, routing and distributing results when received.
- Maintains a safe work environment
- Information processing
- Supports and adheres to laboratory quality assurance program
- Demontrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served
- Other duties as assigned
Required:
- Ability to read and write English
- Must demonstrate the ability to work under stress in a variety of situations, the ability to exercise independent judgment, and must have manual dexterity.
Preferred:
- High School Education/GED
- 1-3 years experience in a laboratory setting
