What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Care Technician - Float position at Fairview Health Services?
Fairview Health Services is looking for a Float Laboratory Care Technician at M Health Fairview Ridges Hospital and M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital.
This position is 80 hours/2 week pay period, 8 hour shifts with start times varying between 5:00AM-6:00AM, 11:00AM, and 1:00-2:30PM, and includes weekends as needed, up to every other weekend. This position does not require any holiday shifts.

This LCT position is in the Lab Float Pool. This position regularly travels to multiple sites to fill open shifts and “regular” travel is defined as to be available to travel 100% at any time to different locations based on the business needs. The length of the assignment at a location will vary based on need (i.e., 1 day for ill call or an extended period of time), which includes the expectation to travel to more than one site during the day at a moment’s notice.
Lab Float employees receive a pay incentive in addition to the hourly rate of pay. May be eligible for mileage reimbursement (as qualified under IRS regulations).

Responsibilities Job Description
Working with diverse populations within a healthcare environment, the LCT plays an important role in providing quality, proficient and professional services in keeping with Fairview Values as they interact with our patients, families and co-workers. The LCT performs laboratory specimen collection at various Fairview or outreach locations, as well as provides for safe and secure specimen handling and point of care testing. Responsible for accurately entering orders and collection information into the Laboratory Information System and associated subsystems; monitoring computer logs for incomplete work; scheduling tests/procedures and providing results in LIS/HIS and over the phone, the LCT's attention to detail and accuracy are the foundation for our providing quality laboratory services. Working as an individual or team member, the LCT continuously works towards providing quality service improvement and optimum support to the department and team members in achieving Fairview's goals.

Following established guidelines to obtain specimens and perform procedures, prioritizing work to achieve optimal patient outcomes, information Processing, maintaining a safe work environment, demonstrating ability to deliver care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served. Qualifications
Required
- At least 18 years of age
- High School diploma/GED
Education
- Completion of a formal phlebotomy education program OR-
- Completion of three months of full-time clinical phlebotomy and laboratory experience OR-
- Enrollment in final year of MLT or MLS program.
Preferred
- Prior laboratory experience in a hospital or clinic setting in a similar capacity
Additional Requirement:
- Access to reliable transportation and driver's license in good standing.
