What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Director – Pediatric Hospitalist (Internal Candidates Only) position at Fairview Health Services?
The Medical Director, in partnership with the Operational Director leads a care team(s) to achieve the organization's mission and strategic goals. This role manages the strategy and execution of day-to-day operations of one or more clinics. Is responsible for providing leadership to the physicians and advanced practice providers at the site(s) they support, including the Daily Engagement System (DES). Medical Directors will also support the Service Line with projects and committees or programmatic mgmt as assigned. Assists in development of short term and long term plans or projects that align to the Service Line and organizational strategies. Medical Director is accountable for the provider budget, productivity and overall performance.
Responsibilities
- Implementation and ongoing management of the following: Pertinent policies , performance targets including operating, financial, productivity; annual quality plan and clinical outcomes metrics; practice standards; annual customer experience plan for primary care; standards for service delivery and access
- Responsible for ensuring that there is sufficient capacity to serve the needs of the local community. Includes monitoring of current capacity and utilization
- Maintains knowledge of and complies with all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards for Fairview
- Identify, prioritize, and sponsor opportunities for improvement through lean principles. Serves as a leader in continuous improvement of the organization and assures compliance of new and existing protocols
- Leads or participates in committee work as designated by the Executive Team or other leadership. Promotes positive, collaborative relationships between the Primary Care Service Line and other Fairview partners
- Responsible for creating an environment for professional development including oversight of hiring and onboarding of new team members, training, ongoing coaching and engagement. Ensures high-level performance, achievement of goals and quality results, through people that report to them. Continuously evaluates performance and setting up development plans throughout the year.
- In partnership with the operations director oversees the development and management of financial budgets for their clinic(s). Along with the director is accountable for closing gaps in outcomes.
- Fosters a culture of teamwork, collaboration, shared accountability, improvement, innovation and success.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies will all policies and standards.
Required Qualifications:
Education
- Doctor of Medicine - Completion of residency in approved AMA specialty or
- Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine - Completion of residency in approved AMA specialty or
- Doctorate of Nursing Practice DNP
- Masters in Business Admin or
- Masters of Healthcare Admin
Licenses and Certifications
- (AOA) in Internal Medicine, Family Practice, or IM-Peds
- Physician Medical License to Practice in MN
- Family Nurse Practitioner-ANCC or
- AANP
- MN Registered Nurse (RN) License MN and
- Nurse Practitioner MN
- Ability to obtain and /or maintain DEA certification for the State of Minnesota.
- Meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges
Work Experience
- 5 years Minimum of 5 of experience in clinical practice that demonstrates success in quality, clinical variation, practice management, and patient experience
- Administrative and/or managerial experience
- Demonstrated results for creating and maintain a patient-centered, safe environment of care and improving patient care and experience
- Demonstrated characteristics of inclusion, fairness, integrity and accountability
- Collaborative work style
- Ability to serve as a diplomat/ mentor with strong executive presence
- Strong communication skills, including written and verbal
- Ability to lead and manage broad-based change and development
- Strong interpersonal and team/group dynamic skills. Ability to balance the needs and perspectives of multiple constituencies and assist groups in decision making
- Board Certified (ABMS)
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters of Healthcare Admin or
- Master of Medical Management (MMM) or
- Leadership of Service Line or Organizational Committee

Compensation Disclaimer
The actual rate of pay offered within this range may depend on several factors, such as FTE, skills,knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, our organization values pay equity and considers the internal equity of our team when making any offer. Positions withthe same min/max are flat rate jobs based on 40 hours/week. Compensation plans based on production can allow for higher pay than the range posted.
