The Nurse Manager leads nursing practice and patient care operations, collaborates with perioperative Nurse Directors, the VP of perioperative services and the Department of Anesthesiology. This includes: nursing practice, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, finance and other operational accountabilities. The CVICU cares for patients with coronary artery bypass, valve replacement and transcatheter aortic valve replacement, aortic arch repair and heart and lung transplant. The CVICU also handles patients with decompensated heart failure, adult congenital heart defects, cardiogenic shock, advanced pulmonary hypertension and cardiac arrest. We apply extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), ventricular assist devices (VAD), intraortic balloon pumps (IABP) and Swan-Ganz catheters routinely. Our complex patient population requires hemodynamic monitoring, critical medication management, management of organ failure, maintenance of systemic perfusion and high technical skills.
Responsibilities Job Description
Job Expectations:
- Leads day-to-day operations of assigned area(s) to ensure support of the mission, vision, values and goals of the organization.
- Plans, manages, coordinates and evaluates patient care activities including staffing, resource management, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, and financial management.
- Handles equipment inventory and supply management within operational budget.
- Accountable for capacity management to promote patient flow.
- Develops, implements, monitors and evaluates the quality improvement initiatives.
In addition, the CVICU NM:
- Is responsible for human resources management to achieve quality service and positive employee relations.
- Ensures compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
- Advocates for patient, family and staff needs.
- Drives improvement activities that promote patient centered care and positive customer experience.
- In partnership the Nursing Practice and Education team assure that evidence based/standard process clinical care is being delivered.
- Ensures staff compliance in areas of job requirements, education and clinical competency.
- Works with Nurse Director to establish goals and objectives.
- Promotes a culture of high employee engagement, professional development, nursing education and research.
- Partners with interprofessional team members across the continuum of care to achieve organizational outcomes.
Qualifications
Required
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. If Bachelor’s degree is not in nursing must have a Master’s degree is nursing.
Experience
Four Years nursing experience, at least two of which is in a formal or informal (charge, lead, preceptor) leadership role.
License/Certification/Registration
Licensed Registered Nurse. Ability to obtain Minnesota nursing license at time of hire.
BLS certification

Master’s Degree in Nursing
Experience
3 years of high-acuity CVICU staff RN experience
2 Years of ICU Leadership experience
-Proven employee engagement success
-Proven success in key quality/patient safety metrics such as CAUTI, CLABSI, Pressure Injuries
-Working knowledge of finance, productivity and available levers to positively influence
-Thorough understanding of complex ICU daily staffing/scheduling process
License/Certification/Registration
ANCC or AONL Certification
