Responsibilities Job Description
Job Summary:
The Security Investigator Specialist is responsible for system level security investigations, including threat assessment, physical security improvements, security education, and investigation of security issues in the Fairview hospitals, clinics, and properties, as assigned by the Security Manager or Director.
Job Expectations:
- Ability to perform investigations of incidents occurring in the hospital, clinic, or on other Fairview property,
- Support improvement work in the area of physical security, specifically clinic and non-hospital sites
- Completes Security Vulnerability Assessments (SVA)
- Excellent understanding of local laws and statutes related to healthcare security
- Critical thinking skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to conduct investigative interviews and write clear, concise and detailed reports.
- Ability to investigative theft and/or fraudulent activities.
- Ability to conduct security threat assessments in hospitals, clinics and other Fairview properties.
- Ability to develop security and threat response plans for all Fairview sites and departments
- Understanding of conducting background investigations and criminal history investigations.
- Understanding of health care pharmacy drug diversion investigations
- Liaison with local law enforcement entities on incidents occurring in the hospital or on hospital grounds.
- Educate hospital, clinic, and other Fairview staff on the prevention of violence, theft/crime prevention, and healthcare security measures
- Collaborates with Risk Management, Legal, Patient Representative, and other Fairview Departments to assist in investigations and security, as assigned by the Security Manager or Director.
- Conduct security stand-by assignments for threat and/or high risk meetings at clinics and other non-hospital facilities.
- Partner with clinic and non-hospital leadership on committee and work groups dedicated to security and violence prevention.
- Assist the Security Department with response to emergent incidents, as assigned by the Security Manager or Director.
- Act as a primary Security Department contact for Fairview affiliated Clinics on physical security and investigations.
- Conduct physical security risk assessments for the Fairview affiliated clinics
- Act as the primary point of contact for clinic security matters.
- Attend any regular clinic committee meetings requiring security input and support
- Knowledge of clinic, out-patient, ambulatory work environments.
- Knowledge of developmental stages and age appropriate outcomes and interventions.
Qualifications
Required
Education
- Associate’s Degree
Experience
- 5 years healthcare security, law enforcement or military experience with expertise in investigations
License/Certification/Registration
- Fairview Security Department Officer training
Preferred
Education
- B.A./B.S. degree with emphasis on criminal justice, physical security, investigations, and/or technology
Experience
- 10 years healthcare security, law enforcement or military experience with expertise in investigation
License/Certification/Registration
- Threat Assessment training and certification
- John Reid and/or Wicklander Interviewing Certification
- Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) Certification
Additional Requirements (must be obtained or completed within a period of time):
- Proficiency with investigative tools and methods (CLEAR, open source investigations, state databases)
- Proficiency in interview and interrogation methods and best practices

- Due to differences in scope of care, practice, or service across settings, the specific experience required for this position may vary.
- Ability to travel across different sites in the system organization and address unique / complex security issues
