Job Title: Healthcare Support Services Intern
Job Description: This Support Services Intern role is a great way to gain healthcare experience working alongside our Guest Services, Patient Transport, Nutrition Services, Environmental Services, Parking, Valet and Shuttle Service teams at the University of Minnesota Medical Center. This rotational internship will provide the opportunity to work in several departments and gain a broader perspective of the many people, skills and roles that come together in the care of the patients in our community and the opportunity to explore different non-clinical healthcare environments first-hand. In Support Services, every day brings a new opportunity to be a part of creating a positive environment for our patients, their families, visitors, and colleagues across the facility.
Responsibilities Job Description
Each intern will have the opportunity to shadow team members, assist with daily tasks, contribute to impactful team projects as well as have ownership of individual projects. Daily tasks may include the following:
- Greet patients, visitors, staff and vendors in our lobby entrance areas, answer phones, and provide informational assistance.
- Assist Patient Transport with the patient discharge process.
- Assist with stocking of supplies and equipment throughout the facility to assist with operational efficiency.
- Participate on work teams, shadow workflows, and perform various tasks in each unit/department.
- Accompany teams into patient care areas to observe the connection between support services and patient care.
- Work with department team members to ensure delivery of outstanding customer service in a positive work environment.
- Support customer experience initiatives including customer service audits, wayfinding, and mystery service audits.
- Participate in hospital safety initiatives, including the daily safety huddle process.
Qualifications
Skills Needed: Interest in healthcare and a desire to learn! Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work collaboratively as a member of our team and able to respond creatively to a rapidly changing work environment. Ability to maintain a positive, respectful, and responsive patient-centered approach in all interactions.
