POSITION OVERVIEW:
As a Peer Advocate, you will provide essential support to individuals in recovery, assisting them with daily life skills, coping strategies, and connecting them to both traditional and non-traditional resources. Your role will also include navigating the system of care, facilitating recovery partnerships, and supporting clients in a non-clinical capacity. You will act as a liaison between participants and community agencies to ensure access to necessary services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Volunteer Coordination: Manage volunteer recruitment, orientation, and scheduling. Ensure volunteers have the necessary tools and materials to perform their duties effectively. Track volunteer hours and ensure productive use of time. Report on volunteer-related issues to the Voices Director.
· Scope of Practice: Adhere to scope of practice and responsibilities of support professionals and supervision requirements.
- System Navigation & Advocacy: Assist participants in navigating the system of care, providing problem-solving support and advocacy. Accompany participants to 12-step meetings and community events as needed.
- Community Outreach & Recovery Partnerships: Build and maintain recovery-focused relationships within the community, establishing connections to vital resources and services.
- Rights Protection & Representation: Ensure that participants’ rights are protected and act as a representative of their needs when appropriate.
- Documentation & Communication: Take and document incoming calls, relay relevant information to the appropriate staff, and maintain detailed records of interactions with community agencies.
- Transportation & Appointment Support: Assist with transporting participants to scheduled appointments, meetings, and events as needed.
- Program Coverage & Policy Enforcement: Provide program coverage during evenings and weekends when necessary. Support staff with new participant intake and enforce agency policies and procedures to ensure timely assistance to participants.
- Logbook Maintenance: Record relevant details in the shift logbook to ensure that important information is communicated effectively.
- Additional Responsibilities: Undertake any additional tasks as assigned by the supervisory team.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in report writing and documentation
- Ability to follow both oral and written instructions from professional staff
- Familiarity with local community agencies and resources
- A proactive, resourceful, and professional demeanor, demonstrating initiative and courtesy
- Personal history of recovery and ongoing commitment to maintaining that recovery
- In-depth understanding of the agency’s policies, procedures, and regulations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certification as a Peer Advocate with at least one year of relevant experience
- High school diploma or equivalency (GED)
- Personal history of recovery from substance use disorder (SUD)
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A valid driver’s license with no more than three (3) points on your driving record and a clean driving history
