Summary:
The Women’s and Children’s and Unit Support Specialist’s Director is a professional nurse who works within the state defined scope of practice and adheres to defined policies/procedures and regulatory requirements.
The director possesses demonstratable knowledge of the health care environment and is responsible for providing administrative and clinical oversight for the unit/s. Accountable for planning, coordinating, leading, and evaluating all areas of the unit/s including the development and maintenance of policies and procedures. The director lives our mission and upholds our standards of behavior and values and serves as a professional role model. The director will also promote a cohesive structured unit that is hardwired for excellence.
The director has sound knowledge of clinical nursing practice and is responsible for adequate staffing for the delivery of competent, compassionate, and efficient patient care. Maintains the physical environment and all supplies and equipment needed in order to promote safe quality care. Responsive to patient concerns and feedback and develops action plans for improvement if needed. Responsible for all aspects of human resources which includes recruiting, hiring, retaining, training, educating, developing, employee engagement, and succession planning.
Director competencies include effective communication and relationship management, professionalism, conflict resolution, problem solving, risk management, evidence-based practice outcomes and measurement, performance improvement goal development and metrics, personal and professional accountability, and coaching and mentoring. The director serves as the visionary for the unit/s of oversight to include strategic direction and growth opportunities. The director is responsible for the development and management of the operating and capital budgets and contract maintenance.

1. Demonstrates ability to appropriately modify approach and procedures to meet needs of age/diversity of population served for the following age groups:

2. Creates and maintains a professional practice environment by ensuring the following:
- Staff understand and apply appropriated procedures, interventions, and approaches to meet the needs of the age/diversity of the populations served within the unit/s.
- Nurses are competent in the nursing process and able to prioritize, formulate, implement, evaluate, and adapt the interdisciplinary plan of care.
- Nurses can implement the medical plan of care including all aspects of medication administration, blood administration, and other medical interventions.
- Staff accurately document all care provided in a timely manner.
Essential Management/Leadership Duties and Responsibilities:
- Accomplishes department objectives by managing staff; planning and evaluating department activities.
- Organizes and oversees the staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees. Coaches, counsels, and disciplines employees.
- Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results. Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Ensures a safe, secure, and legal work environment.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Develops, coordinates, and enforces systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards that will improve day-to-day operations.
- Establishes strategic goals by gathering pertinent business, financial, service, and operations information.
- Defines objectives, identifies and evaluates trends and options, chooses a course of action, and evaluates outcomes.
- Accomplishes financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective financial actions.

- Accountable for keeping the Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer informed of all critical issues and progress made in process improvement activities.
- Attends Department Director Management Meetings, and committees and work teams as appropriate.
Hours will be dependent on patient census and workload. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, to include after-hours and weekends as necessary.

EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
Master’s Degree required.
EDUCATION FIELD OF STUDY:
Healthcare preferred.
Previous Experience Requirements:
EXPERIENCE:
Previous clinical experience required.
Previous management experience required.
Previous healthcare experience required.
3 years of previous experience in field required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license or temporary permit from the State of Nebraska required.
