Summary :
The OB Tech is a certified nursing assistant (CNA) who assists nurses and providers in the Women's and Children's (WMCH) Department with clinical and unit duties.
The CNA assists the nurse in providing activities of daily living and personal needs and comfort of patients. The CNA works under the direction of the licensed nurse and adheres to department and hospital policies / procedures and regulatory requirements.
As a dual role, the OB Tech works closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care to facilitate safe and effective cesarean sections. Additional duties include ensuring functioning equipment, supply stocking, instrument care, and maintaining a clean environment.

Responsibilities :
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities :
1. Demonstrates ability to appropriately modify approach and procedures to meet needs of age / diversity of population served for the following age groups :
Neonate (birth - 28 days)
Infant (29 days - less than 1 year)
Pediatric / Child (1 year - 12 years)
Adolescent (12 years - 18 years)
Adult (18 years - 65 years)
Geriatric (over 65 years)
- Incorporates cultural considerations in the provisions of care.
- Knowledge of growth and developmental stages.
- Considers life changes / effects on health beliefs and behaviors.
- Provides necessary safety measures.
- Provides information and involves family / caregiver in decision making.
2. Certified Nurse Aide Duties :
a. Collecting basic subjective and objective data from observations and interviews. The data to be collected is identified by the RN and / or LPN.
b. Providing necessary safety measures.

d. Reporting and recording the collected data.
a. Identifying and reporting basic information and data of signs and symptoms of deviations from normal health status which licensed nurse's use in identification of problems and needs.
a. Assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), personal cares, and encouraging self-care.
b. Providing comfort measures and emotional support to client / patients whose condition is stable and / or predictable.
c. Assisting with basic maintenance and restorative nursing.
d. Observing or Sitting 1 : 1 with patients.
e. Providing a safe and healthy environment.
f. Documenting and communicating completion of assigned / delegated activities and client / patient responses.
g. Seeking guidance and direction when appropriate.
h. Performing technical aspects of patient care according to established policies and procedures.
i. Demonstrates the ability to effectively manage appropriate transfer of medications from the pneumatic tube system to the designated health care worker per policy.
a. Documenting and communicating client / patient responses.
b. Assisting with collection of data.
3. Surgical Technician Duties :

Hours will be dependent on patient census and workload. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, to include after-hours and weekends as necessary.

EDUCATION :
GED or High School Diploma preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS :
Current Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification from the State of Nebraska required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained within one full month from date of hire from the State of Nebraska (Travelers-required upon hire) required.
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention program obtained within six full months from date of hire (Travelers-required upon hire) required.
Previous Experience Requirements :
EXPERIENCE :
Previous clinical experience preferred.
Skills / Knowledge Requirements :
SKILLS :
Language Skills - Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language required.
Other Certifications / Requirements
Required to be 18 years of age due to operation of mechanical lift equipment.
