Position Summary
The Director of YOUTH Ministries (Youth Pastor) is a paid position and has primary responsibility for the spiritual leadership, pastoral care, administrative oversight and organizational direction for youth at Faith United Church. The person in this position must demonstrate a great capacity to love youth by fostering discipleship relationships and administrating quality programs that guide youth to take the next faithful step in their relationship with Jesus. The person in this position will work collaboratively with staff, Session and ministry teams to develop and implement the mission for youth ministry while keeping in line with the overall vision of the church. This individual must be a passionate disciple of Jesus Christ and a team player who is able to equip and train volunteer ministry teams, shepherd youth, teach well, and organize and implement programs and events.
RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Church Leadership Team
- Serve as contributing member of the staff; represent the needs and interests of youth and their families, and be willing to step into “associate” responsibilities when needed
- Work closely with the Pastor, Director of Children’s Ministry, and Family Ministries Elder to fulfill the purpose of Faith United Church
- Attend weekly staff meetings and cooperate with staff to accomplish “all-church” events and ministry goals
- Fulfill leadership and pastoral responsibilities while pastor is gone; preaching 4-6 times a year
Leadership of Youth Ministries
- Relationally invest in 5th-12th grade youth and their environments; demonstrate a passion to play and connect with youth in fun and exciting ways while also leading youth towards the next step in their relationship with Jesus Christ
- Create and maintain a safe environment that promotes authentic community for the whole family
- Present Biblical & culturally relevant teaching that sustains Christian values and points youth to a God-centered lifestyle
- Call, train, and equip volunteers and volunteer teams who will help shepherd youth
- Provide administration and oversight of special events, camps, curriculum, scheduling, communication, and publicity
- Engage regularly with youth outside scheduled programming including school, sports activities, and informal “meet ups”
- Equip students to step into leadership and volunteer roles within other ministry areas (example: Juniors and Seniors helping with Middle School ministries)
Qualifications
- A degree and/or equivalent experience in teaching and/or youth ministry preferred
- A passion/calling for youth ministry, with primary emphasis on mid-high and high school; ability to develop positive relationships with youth and their families
- Ability to plan, organize, teach and equip, with special emphasis on communicating and connecting with youth
- Ability to inspire and motivate team members/volunteers toward the mission and vision of Faith United Church
- A passionate love for Jesus Christ demonstrated through faith and obedience to God’s Word and the leading of the Holy Spirit; a calling to serve and love the people at Faith United Church and the community of Brandon, and work towards the church’s vision and mission
- A commitment to the Essentials and Beliefs of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church
Programming
- 5th-8th grade programs (mid-high)
- Weekly Mid-Week Youth Group (Games, Food, Praise songs, Teaching, Small Groups on Wednesday)
- Sunday Morning C-Groups (The Gospel Project Curriculum)
- Quarterly Events (samples: Camp In, Service Project, Christmas Party, Air Madness…)
- Winter Retreats and Summer Camps
- 9th-12th grade programs (High School)
- Youth Group (Games, Food, Praise songs, Teaching, Small Groups on Sunday Nights)
- Quarterly Events (Service Project, Christmas Party, Superbowl Part)
- Winter Retreat & Summer Mission Trip
- Executing Confirmation program and retreat
- NON-Programming responsibilities
- Contact Ministry: Relationally invest in individual youth, opportunities to mentor, disciple, and counsel youth over ice-cream, coffee, or food
- Attend games, concerts, performances, and other school and youth activities (the Schools welcome youth pastors onsite for lunch and support)
- Connect with Parents, regularly engaging and partnering in discipling their children
- Connect with and support other ministries and churches in the Brandon Valley area
Physical Requirements
· Must be able to interact with youth in a variety of settings and off-hours (church, home, youth activities, etc.)
· Some aspects of the position are very sedentary; other aspects may involve considerable physical activity
· Must be able to speak/interact in a public forum
Evaluation
A review of this person’s performance is to be conducted annually by the Personnel Committee in cooperation with the Pastor, with input from appropriate ministry team leaders
Compensation
This is a full-time, salaried position (exempt from overtime pay); anticipated average of 40-50 hours per week
· Salary: $42,000 - $45,000 (per year)
· With Benefits (see below): estimated $59,000

o 28 days per year (max of 6 Sundays a year)
