We are hiring an Warehouse Assistant to join our Brookings, SD team!
Summary of Job Responsibilities: Assists with all aspects of the warehouse operation, including managing, verifying and maintaining finished goods inventory, shipping, receiving, and material control. Will split time between the warehouse, material control, production floor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
WAREHOUSE:
- Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment.
- Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
- Contacts carrier representative to make arrangements and to issue instructions for loading products. Schedules and plans for loading location and time of arrival of transportation for loading efficiency.
- Determines routing and legal load limits of trucks according to established schedules and weight limits.
- Assembles wooden or cardboard shipping containers, preassembled containers and uses shrink wrap when appropriate.
- Stamps, stencils, or glues accurate identifying information and shipping instruction onto crates/containers/gaylords.
- Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage when necessary.
- Accurately prepares bills of lading.
- Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet customer specifications and internal standards of quality.
- Maintains adequate inventory level of shipping material and supplies.
- Manages incoming items such as inserts, supplies, materials and sprays, including receiving inspections as needed.
- Operates forklift according to trained certification standards to move or convey finished goods to the Warehouse and checks counts.
- Operates forklift according to trained certification standards to load outgoing trucks, ensuring shipments are secure and resistant to damage in transit to the best of ones ability.
- Delivers parts as requested to meet customer and internal needs.
- Responsible for assisting in the accurate Finished Goods Inventory.
- Participates in special and periodic inventories as requested by the Warehouse Manager.
MATERIAL CONTROL:
- Occasionally transfers materials to production floor to meet production schedules as determined by Warehouse Manager, Plant Supervisor, Plant Manager and Customer Service via work order or oral instruction.
- Accurately computes amount of material required to complete job orders.
- Opens containers/barrels/gaylords and accurately mixes additives with the raw materials in blender or tumbler according to specifications.
- Offers suggestions for material handling process improvement.
- Maintains accurate computerized records such as raw material and sample inventory, in process production reports, and status and location of materials.
- Confers with Warehouse Supervisor to maintain organized, adequate inventory and storage of raw materials.
- Safely loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks and shelves by hand or with motorized assistance.
- Safely loads material onto forklift or other motorized unit and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
- Conveys materials from storage or mixing area to production floor and returns product to proper warehouse location. Counts, weighs and records number of units moved or handled on daily production sheet.
- Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on barrels or gaylords.
- Safely loads and unloads materials from trucks. Inspects and counts incoming products.
- Prepare sample materials.
- Maintains availability of pallets.
Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or GED; or up to three months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Training Requirements: Successful completion of the following training is required: New Employee Orientation, 90 Day Orientation, Position Specific Training Checklist
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Software Knowledge: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficient skills in Microsoft Office products, (Excel, Word, Powerpoint), Salesforce, Smartsheets and effective use of our ERP system software - IQMS.
Other Skills and Abilities: Must be professional, ethical, results and business oriented with a strong work ethic and technical background. Must possess a valid drivers license and successful complete a background check.
