As a Teacher for the Stanley G Falk School you will provide instruction congruent with the New York State Learning Standards as well as the students' Individual Education Plan to enable students to reach their fullest physical, social-emotional, psychological, behavioral and intellectual potential.
As the Special Education Teacher your day will include :
- Developing lessons that reflect New York State Learning Standards to meet students' Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) goals and objectives
- Implementing provisions of IEP and Behavior Implementation Plan
- Assessing students, both informally and formally, to provide an individualized classroom program
- Planning and initiating activities to promote learning using specialized small group and individualized instruction
- Creating a classroom learning environment that is conducive to the student's intellectual, social, and emotional development; considers the IEP for the student and mitigating factors, including specific systems of motivation for students
- Preparing, administering, and grading tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress
- Keeping accurate attendance records and other reports / records pertinent to the program
- Assisting and counseling students in making realistic assessments of their abilities in establishing educational and occupational goals
- Serving as a role model for students, represent appropriate behavior, anger management, and problem-solving skills
- Directing assigned teacher aide(s) to support instruction and maintain classroom behavior
- Creating strategies for maintaining orderly classroom behavior on an individual and group basis
- Utilizing appropriate techniques of behavior management and crisis interventions as indicated in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention guidelines; implements strategies to address escalating behaviors, i.e. time-out, discussion, conflict resolution
Qualifications for the role :
Competitive Salary starting at $45,480.68 / school year (actual rate of pay is dependent on experience)
Shift : Monday through Friday 7 : 35 AM - 2 : 35 PM

Salary : $45,481
