Summary of Position
The Claim Team Lead for Transportation & Logistics is responsible for leading a team of claim adjusters to include but not be limited to ensuring company and departmental protocols and procedures are being followed by team members and performance metrics are being met. The Team Lead is also responsible for the intake, processing, and settlement of assigned claim aswell as supporting the Head of Transportation & Logistics Claims (Department Head) with training and direct supervision of team members within the assigned team.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
The Team Lead should have an advanced understanding of insurance issues, be customer service oriented, and demonstrate the ability to share knowledge and work effectively in a team environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact with all levels of company staff including management, underwriting and legal departments with a customer service focus on internal and external customers. Organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
Must be able to evaluate coverage decisions for transit claims based upon the transit documents, surveyor's investigative reports and applicable marine cargo insurance policy.
Other Requirements
Must be able to sit and operate a computer; answer and communicate on a telephone; and operate copy machine.

Hours of Operation and Working Conditions
This position’s work hours are Monday through Friday 7am to 3pm MST, in a business-casual office environment, and may be subject to change. We currently operate in a hybrid capacity with a minimum 3 days in the office, with Wednesday and Thursday mandatory in-office days and additional weekday(s) your choice. This position requires occasional flexibility for working additional hours to accomplish project objectives. Occasional business travel may be required.

- Management and supervision of assigned team, including:
- Conduct minimum regular weekly team meetings to convey information to team, discuss current claims, address any procedural or system issues, and the like
- Be a daily resource for your assigned team, including answering questions on an ad hoc basis
- Ensure team members understand and are following established claims handling procedures and protocol
- Take corrective action with team members’ non-compliance with procedures and protocols
- Support a professional and positive working environment
- Participate in Department Head/Team Lead meetings
- Approve claim reserves and payments within granted authority
- Conduct Quality Assessments on team members’ work product
- Complete claim reviews to ensure established key performance metrics are being met
- Provide feedback to team members on an individual basis on work performance, including addressing any focus areas and/or areas for improvement
- Provide feedback to Department Head on assigned team to be utilized in semi-annual and annual performance reviews.
- Management of assigned claims book including intake, processing, adjustment, and settlement of the claims through:
- Understanding and interpreting the policy to determine applicable coverage and the cause and extent of loss within effective policy periods
- Setting accurate reserves within specific authority limits or making recommendations for adjusting reserves when necessary and appropriate
- Determine and utilize third party resources for needed claims investigations
- Maintain organized and detailed claim files within internal database systems
- Ensure accuracy of documentation and information relative to each claim
- Understand and apply salvage and subrogation processes to assist internal and external legal departments with the recovery process

Other Requirements
- A degree or certificate in any related business field is a plus
- 2 years of experience as a Claims Associate, or similar role, is required. Also, a willingness to complete continuing education courses in the insurance field
- Adjuster licensing is required. If not licensed in home state, then obtainment of adjuster license in home state within 6 months of date of hire is required.
