What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bilingual Teacher Aide position at FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES RISING INC?
Families and Communities Rising, Inc. (FCR, Inc.) is a nonprofit organization that has provided early education and resources to families for over 50 years! FCR Head Start/Early Head Start programs are currently seeking enthusiastic and dedicated early childhood educators to join our team in locations throughout the Durham Counties. This position floats between FCR Head Start/Early Head Start classrooms as directed by Center Director to assist the teaching team with all daily classroom activities.
General Staff Responsibilities:
1. Participate in staff meetings, attend conferences, training/workshops, and meet education standards as required.
2. Demonstrate familiarity with Families and Communities Rising, Inc. (FCR) policies and procedures, FCR Head Start/Early Head Start policies and procedures, Head Start Performance Standards, FCR Head Start Plans and Procedures and the program mission.
3. Maintain congenial and respectful relations with staff, children, families and community.
4. Keep current and accurate records.
5. Maintain confidentiality in regards to staff and family information.
6. Maintain professional standards and professional courtesy policies.
7. Actively participate in professional development opportunities and ongoing self-improvement.
8. Fulfill role as mandated reporter as stated in FCR Head Start/Early Head Start Child Abuse and Neglect Policy.
9. Be present at work in order to provide consistency of services.
10. Be a contributory team member in a positive and productive manner.
11. Flexibility to accommodate changes in job responsibilities due to changing program demands as requested by your supervisor.
12. Demonstrate commitment to FCR Head Start/Early Head Start mission, values and policies in the performance of daily job duties.
13. Work at scheduled program recruitment/enrollment events during the year as directed by supervisor.
14. Commit and contribute to on-going program quality improvement through your role as it relates to the following program-wide systems: Program Governance, Planning, ERSEA, Communication, Record-Keeping and Reporting, Ongoing Monitoring, Self-Assessment, Human Resources and Fiscal Management.
15. Embrace advancing technology to improve job performance and productivity.
16. Commit to reflective supervision as a cornerstone of program and staff development.
Major Duties/Functions/Responsibilities:
1. Assist the classroom teachers with carrying out developmentally appropriate curriculum plans with groups and individual children.
2. Work one on one with children on specific activities intended to stimulate their growth and development as directed by teacher or assistant teacher.
3. Assist the classroom teachers with preparation for the daily activities by helping, when needed, to prepare the individual activity centers and the outdoor area for safe activities.
4. Assist the classroom teachers with meal times.
5. Manage children’s behavior in accordance with FCR Head Start/Early Head Start Discipline & Behavior Management Policy. Use an appropriate tone of voice and refrain from any negative comments to or in front of children.
6. Assist the classroom teachers in maintaining a safe and healthy environment by supervising the children at all times and by ensuring that the highest level of safety possible is maintained both indoors and outdoors.
7. Help the classroom teachers ensure that the children are following the sanitation rules for the classroom.
8. Assist the classroom teachers with transition times including special activities and the general activities throughout the day.
9. Assist in supervision of children at all times (classrooms, bathrooms, playgrounds, field trips, etc.)
10. Assist the classroom teachers by providing release time for the classroom staff to carry out educational duties, to take breaks, or to substitute for a teacher when necessary while always maintaining ratios of no greater than 1:9.
11. Follow all policies, procedures, rules and regulation of FCR Head Start/Early Head Start, North Carolina Pre-K (NCPK), and the Division of Child Development.
Qualifications and Knowledge/Skills Required:
- Must be 18 years of age or older with a High School Diploma or GED
- Have experience working with children under 5 years
- Must be Bilingual
