What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nutrition Aide position at FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES RISING INC?
Families and Communities Rising, Inc. (FCR, Inc.) is a nonprofit organization that has provided early education and resources to families for over 50 years! FCR Head Start/Early Head Start programs are currently seeking enthusiastic and dedicated nutrition aides to join our team. The nutrition aide works to provide operational support in all areas of food service at the center. Ensure kitchen sanitation and food hygiene. Assist with food preparation, delivery of food to classrooms, and clean-up. Assist in keeping food service-related materials, supplies and equipment stocked. Provide breaks and classroom support to teachers as time allows.
Major Duties/Functions/Responsibilities:
1. Assemble food, dishes, utensils and supplies needed for timely meal service.
2. Adhere to sanitation and safety procedures prescribed for the Seminary kitchen so that all local, state and federal sanitation and licensing requirements and standards are maintained.
3. Prepare food to support family-style dining, and deliver meals from kitchen to classrooms at requested times.
4. Wash dishes, pots, pans, and utensils using dishwasher and approved sanitation methods.
5. Return all items to their proper storage site, and maintain organization in kitchen and laundry areas.
6. Order and pick up supplies as needed and according to established procedures.
7. Receive deliveries from the catering company and milk supplier ensuring that proper items have been delivered.
8. Clean and ready all the catering company’s kitchen pans, containers and carriers to be returned at the next day’s delivery.
9. Assist with food and supply inventories.
10. Complete routine maintenance of kitchen and equipment, including weekly cleaning and disposal of perishable foods and beverages in refrigerator.
11. Maintain recycling system, ensuring all recyclable waste is disposed of properly. Take recycling to the curb on designated day and return empty bins to their storage location weekly.
12. Ensure that center laundry is washed, dried, folded and returned to classrooms on an on-going basis.
13. Work cooperatively with staff to provide coverage in classrooms as necessary.
14. Record-Keeping and Monitoring:
- Check and receive daily meal slips from caterer delivery and collect in the “Meal Receipts Notebook”
- Check and receive weekly delivery slips from milk supplier and submit to Center director.
- Maintain record keeping and communication to support CACFPChild Care Food Program sponsorship, daily and monthly, under the supervision of the Center Director, Health/Nutrition Specialist, and CACFP sponsor designee.
- Maintain documentation, as requested, of selfmonitoring, such as food temperature checks, water temperature checks, and ongoing cleaning.
15. Greet and assist center visitors and callers in a professional and friendly manner.
Qualifications and Knowledge/Skills Required:
- High School Diploma or Equivalency with at least 2 years relevant experience and the ability to relate well to young children
- Ability to work in a professional manner both independently and with others in a team environment to deliver quality services
- Good written and verbal communication skills necessary for frequent telephone and inperson contact with parents, vendors, staff and community service providers
- Ability to problem solve and respond to the unexpected (staff shortages, equipment malfunctions, etc.) while maintaining meal schedules
- Ability to relate effectively with young children, families, community members and staff
