What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volunteer: Help Abuse Victims By Driving! position at Families to Freedom?
Families to Freedom provides free transportation services to victims and their children who have experienced domestic abuse. We make it possible for victims and new survivors to get far away from abusive relationships. Our life-saving services include car rides to domestic violence shelters across the region, road trips to family homes in other states, multi-state bus tickets, and fuel assistance to relocate far away. We serve victims and new survivors across North Texas, East Texas, and the Gulf Coast area. We drive over 900 victims and children each year between two offices located in Dallas and Houston. We rely on the generous support of the community to continue providing these services at no cost to the victims who call us.
, It takes a lot to leave an abuser -- Courage. Planning. Resources. Help.
We get calls for service everyday from survivors trying to restart life after violence, but we need more volunteer drivers to keep up with the demand. We need an awesome person like you!
Assist victims making their break from abuser by driving them to safety! You choose the distance you're willing to travel - whether across town or across the country - and Families to Freedom handles the rest. You just need to be 21 , have a good driving record, pass a background check, and a heart to help.
We ONLY allow our volunteers to pick-up survivors in a safe public place such as a retail store, shelter, hospital, hotel lobby or police station. Volunteer safety is our #1 priority. There is no contact with an abuser.
Transporting a survivor traveling with children? We prepare the car seat for you. Worried about the cost of gas, tolls, food and lodging? We pay it. Don't want to use your personal car? Use one of ours. Not sure you'll be up for a trip when one comes along? Decline any drive you wish with no pressure from us. Weekday daytime availability is most needed!
