What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grant Accountant position at Family and Children's Association?
The Grant Accountant will work within the Fiscal Department to support the mission of Family and Children's Association (FCA) through accurate and insightful financial reporting and analysis. Reporting to the Director of Financial Reporting & Analysis, the Grant Accountant will engage with division heads, program directors and program supervisors, providing expertise in budget management and revenue/spending forecasts to support FCA's operational goals.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a portfolio of assigned government and foundation grants and contracts including a schedule of critical dates for contract renewals and budget modifications
- Partner closely with division heads and program management to review budget reports, analyze revenues and expenditures, and make forecast adjustments to ensure spending remains within budget and revenue targets are achieved
- Utilize government agency portals to submit reports and request drawdowns
- Manage the contracting process amongst various stakeholders to bring grants online, follow funder guidelines, budget preparation in collaboration with program staff
- Stay abreast of changes in funder reporting requirements, attend funder trainings and bidder conferences
- Collaborate with Development and Program personnel on grant opportunities and proposal preparation
- Develop, maintain, and refine financial models and budgets using Excel and NetSuite
- Conduct detailed financial analysis, identifying trends and recommending adjustments to optimize budget performance
- Prepare periodic and ad hoc financial reports, offering actionable insights to guide operating department-level and institutional decision-making
- Provide training and support to operating department staff on budget-related queries, promoting a customer service approach to financial guidance
- Collaborate with the Director of Financial Reporting & Analysis and other Fiscal Department staff to implement financial strategies aligned with FCA's mission and goals
- Ensure adherence to financial policies, governmental regulations, and best practices
- Assist in the annual agency-wide audit including Federal Single Audit
- Coordinate activities between Payroll and General Accounting to adjust personnel allocations and OTPS for contract billing/vouchering
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
- 3-5 years of experience in budgeting, financial analysis or related financial role in a non-profit organization.
- Experience with NetSuite is highly desirable.
- Experience working with various government agencies.
- Must have attention to detail and an analytical mindset.
- Proficient computer skills with MS Office
