Description

Title: Epic Business Intelligence Developer  

Location: Administrative Office

City: Bellingham, WA

Position: Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm, non-exempt (hourly)

Compensation: The full wage scales are as follows:

Epic Business Intelligence Developer I is $31.70 to $47.58.

Epic Business Intelligence Developer II is $32.97 to $49.48.

Epic Business Intelligence Developer Senior is $34.24 to $51.38

 

Epic Business Intelligence Developer I

Minimum 5 years previous Data and Business Analyst or Business Intelligence Developer experience demonstrating proficiency in SQL, an understanding of the architecture and structure of data and exceptional critical thinking and analytical skills. 

Epic Business Intelligence Developer II

Possesses Epic certification/accreditation in the application in addition to qualifications list for Developer I.

Epic Business Intelligence Developer Senior

Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Epic Business Intelligence Developer II as defined by FCN with a broad understanding, expertise and certification/accreditation in multiple applications.

Placement within the wage range is determined by the candidate’s relevant experience.

Time Off & Wellness:

  • PTO, PSL, and EIB accrue starting on your first day, and you can use paid time off after the applicable days of employment
  • Full-time employees generally begin earning 18 days of PTO, increasing 33 days over time per our PTO policy.  You can rollover unlimited PTO hours into the next year.
  • PSL accrues at 1 hour per 40 hours worked
  • EIB accrues up to 32 hours per year (pro-rated based on hours worked) for both part-time and full-time employees, with a maximum of 480 hours

We have 12 clinics and 3 urgent care centers in Whatcom and Skagit County, in a beautiful corner of northwest Washington where the mountains meet the sea. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Configures and tests Epic-released and Foundation System content for all applications including:
    • Reporting Workbench
    • SlicerDicer data models
    • Radar dashboards
    • Cogito SQL
  • Creates content to display Epic data from Chronicles, Clarity and Caboodle.
  • Writes SQL and configures Radar settings for customer SQL metrics.
  • Creates new reports and data sets, and/or modifies existing reports, as necessary.
  • Distributes analytics content to data consumers.
  • Reviews peer reports for validity.
  • Works with subject matter experts to understand the needs of data consumers.
  • Maintains the Analytics Catalog and associated metadata records.
  • Tests analytics build in a specified testing environment and volume testing in live environments.
  • Reviews upgrade documentation related to analytics and reporting features and determines how to implement the changes.
  • May be responsible for building and maintaining:
    • Cubes
    • Extracts
    • SlicerDicer custom filters
    • Third-party BI tools
    • Custom Epic data in Caboodle
  • Manages monthly payer roster imports.
  • Develops, maintains and performs processes to continuously monitor data quality and integrity.
  • Carries out in-depth internal and external data evaluation and verification.
  • Liaises with external and internal partners to request and verify relevancy of clinical data sets.
  • Identifies and evaluates external data sources (public data sets) for information applicable to FCN initiatives.
  • Critically evaluates information gathered from multiple sources, reconciles conflicts and decompose high-level information into details.
  • Works with leadership to transform and develop new clinical options; evaluates and tests those options against FCN short- and long-term goals; presents best options to physician and management leadership for review and discussion; manages implementation of approved options.
  • Interfaces with staff developing strategy as technical advisor.
  • Manages ongoing support requests and administrative needs.
  • Seeks assistance as needed and asks questions in a timely manner and to appropriate staff.
  • Adheres to assigned work schedule (attendance and punctuality).
  • Promotes and participates in company projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Possesses an analytical mind and exceptional critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proficiency with SQL and relational database concepts
  • Proficiency and demonstrated experience with analytics tools
  • Familiarity with Epic applications and database structure through training that occurs early in the implementation.
  • Ability to gain an in-depth understanding of the data model through data model classes geared toward content areas.
  • Ability to understand data structures that could benefit the entire data environment.
  • For financial reporting:  Prior experience working with an AR system is desirable but not required.
  • For clinical reporting:  Prior experience working with an EMR system is desirable but not required.
  • Ability to apply general organization knowledge of the business and systems processes in problem analysis.
  • Proficient with technology including office applications, database systems, executing data imports, running reports, and merging records.
  • Strong knowledge of data systems and data analysis.
  • Solid understanding of application programming, data and system design.
  • Ability to lead and negotiate business solutions that balance technical capability, cost, and time against business needs.
  • Strong knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite, databases, email and electronic medical records systems.
  • Understanding of the principles and practices of collaborative quality improvement/quality assurance.
  • Knowledge and understanding of emerging industry practices when solving business problems.
  • Ability to engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to generate enthusiasm among team members.
  • Ability to work independently with users to define concepts under direction of COO and EHR Program Director.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and project management skills.

Qualifications


Epic Certification/Accreditation & Training Requirements

If applicant is Epic certified/accredited prior to hire, FCN will determine if additional Epic training is required to assure proficiency or currency in the new assigned role and may provide Epic training at the organization’s discretion.

If applicant is not Epic certified/accredited prior to hire, FCN will provide Epic training at the appropriate timeframe based upon demonstrated aptitude, readiness for the training and the Epic training schedule. It is expected, that after the training is completed, the staff member will take the Epic Certification exam and become certified/accredited. Although the staff member may be provided with up to two additional attempts to achieve certification/accreditation, if the employee is unable to do so, at the discretion of FCN, the staff member may no longer be considered qualified to meet the requirements of the position.

Training Requirements – The Business Intelligence Developer attends the appropriate course track as designated by Epic and Family Care Network.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Math, Information Systems, Statistics or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three to five years healthcare experience preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to: stand; walk; sit; use hand to finger coordination, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.

 

Immunization Requirements: Employees are required to meet immunization standards in accordance with federal, state, and organizational health and safety guidelines, as applicable to the role. A simple process is in place for employees to request exemptions for medical or religious reasons.
