Title: Financial Analyst
Location: Administrative Office – Finance Department
City: Bellingham, WA
Position: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm, non-exempt (hourly)
Compensation: The full wage scale is $29.37 - $44.08 per hour. Placement within the wage range is determined by a candidate/s relevant experience.

Job Summary
The Financial Analyst is responsible for reviewing, reconciling and processing financial and statistical data to ensure that the financial records are accurate and available on a timely basis; measuring, analyzing, and reporting changes in payor performance; building and maintaining expected reimbursement models based on managed care contract terms and will work closely with the contracting team during negotiations to analyze the impact of proposed rate changes.
The position supports internal customers and as such is responsible for understanding their business and operational needs, supporting and furthering their goals and priorities within the context of the goals and priorities of Family Care Network. The position is a resource to both financial and operational leadership to support organizational decision making and planning.
Essential Job Functions
- Maintain General Ledger interfaces for the Practice Management billing system.
- Develop cash flow analyses.
- Serve as key contributor in the department budget process.
- Coordinate and assist with preparation of annual operating and capital budgets.
- Extract and interpret data from various sources and provide meaningful, understandable analysis to drive improvement in revenue cycle, coding, productivity and overall financial results.
- Develop insightful analytics and provides effective financial modeling to drive and evaluate company performance.
- Perform budget-to-actual variance analysis and generate meaningful management reports to focus decision-making.
- Work with operations and finance teams to automate and disseminate physician practice monthly reports highlighting key performance metrics.
- Prepares monthly and quarterly journal entries.
- Reconciles general ledger accounts on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Assist in preparing materials for executive management including board decks, investor materials and other executive updates.
- Assists with bi-weekly payroll reconciliation.
- Assist with bi-weekly payroll reconciliation and the preparation/filing of bi-weekly, quarterly, and semi-annual taxes.
- Responsible for monitoring practice management transactions and reconciling to general ledger; prepare monthly revenue analysis for general ledger posting.
- Supports coordination and preparation of Medicare/Medicaid cost reports and Rural Health Reconciliations as required by regulatory agencies.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial and statistical reporting.
- Coordinates and assists with preparation of annual operating and capital budgets.
- Coordinates more complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the finance team, other departments and clinics.
- Perform ad hoc analysis as needed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Solid understanding of accounting systems and modules.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Sound understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Ability to work on the General Ledger to resolve issues and perform timely and accurate period closes; ensure the integrity of the Balance Sheet by monitoring account reconciliations for accuracy; and monitor reports for variances and root causes for those variances.
- Knowledge of medical office practice.
- Proven skill in establishing good employee relations including conflict resolution.
- Advanced computer skills – such as: Health information systems, MS Word, and MS Excel.
- Ability to comprehend and communicate information accurately and clearly (verbally and in writing, in person and via phone) with all levels of personnel, and other individuals and groups, excellent spelling, punctuation and grammar.
- Strong organizational skills: proven ability to perform detailed work accurately despite frequent interruptions, (i.e. plan, multi-task, organize and prioritize).
- Work as part of a team that shares and leverages the strengths of its members.
- Models a positive work ethic and customer friendly relations.
- Experience discerning and maintaining confidentiality (i.e. HIPAA, proprietary information, disciplinary actions, etc.).
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- High School diploma or GED required, or equivalent knowledge and skills obtained through a combination of education, training, and experience. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration preferred or coursework in these subject matter areas with equivalent experience required.
- Four or more years of experience in accounting
- CPA preferred.
- Solid foundation in all accounting cycles; general ledger and financial reporting in a health care setting preferred.
- Experience and/or exposure to cost report preparations; coordination of annual audits and reviews required.
- Experience assisting and preparing budgets and financial projections required.
- Strong technical accounting skills and previous experience in a computerized accounting environment.
- Background in system implementation helpful.
- Experience with Sage100, Spreadsheet Server, Paycom, and EPIC preferred.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hand to finger coordination, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include, close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
