Description

Title: Lab Phlebotomist Trainee

Location: FCN Laboratory Services - Clinics located in Whatcom and Skagit Counties

Position: Full-time, 32-40 hours per week, variable hours and shifts at various draw stations located within FCN clinics, non-exempt (hourly),

Compensation: $17.91 per hour during the training program. Upon the issuance of the Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist (MA-P) license through the Department of Health, the employee will be promoted to the position of Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist and their wage will increase to $18.25 per hour. We also offer a $3.00 per hour shift differential for eligible evening and weekend hours.

Bonus: Candidates are eligible to receive a Retention Bonus of $1,000 upon issuance of an active MA-P license (subject to payback clause). After one year of employment as a Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist (MA-P), the employee will receive an additional $1,000 Retention bonus (subject to payback clause).

Time Off & Wellness:

  • PTO, PSL, and EIB accrue starting on your first day, and you can use paid time off after the applicable days of employment
  • Full-time employees generally begin earning 18 days of PTO, increasing 33 days over time per our PTO policy.  You can rollover unlimited PTO hours into the next year.
  • PSL accrues at 1 hour per 40 hours worked
  • EIB accrues up to 32 hours per year (pro-rated based on hours worked) for both part-time and full-time employees, with a maximum of 480 hours

Job Summary:

The Lab Phlebotomist Trainee will learn basic phlebotomy skills and complete the FCN Lab Phlebotomy Training Program to facilitate obtaining the WA State Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist license within 90 days of hire. The training will be provided by the Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist Leads and Lab Assistant/Phlebotomists. 

Ideal candidates have previous medical, clinical laboratory, or reference laboratory experience.

   Phlebotomy Samples Testing Responsibilities:

  • Computer inquiry and entry to maintain patient demographics as well as test ordering details in accordance with compliance guidelines
  • Process and prepare samples for testing at FCN draw stations
  • Process, prepare and package samples for delivery to FCN Laboratory
  • Conducts work in accordance with all regulatory accreditation agency requirements. Process all specimen types and sources to be analyzed by the laboratory including blood, urine, cultures, and other body fluids

   Phlebotomist responsibilities:

  • Complete required phlebotomy procedures including venous and capillary punctures, and urine collections for medical testing procedures, and other duties as assigned

   General Responsibilities:

  • Scanning, data entry, and other clerical duties, as assigned
  • Maintains organized and clean workspace
  • Completes and reports on special assignments as needed
  • Complies with all FCN policies and procedures
  • Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients
  • Adheres to assigned work schedule (attendance and punctuality)
  • Perform all duties in a manner that promotes and supports the Core Values of the Family Care Network

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Medical Terminology
  • Strong working knowledge of Outlook, data entry, and simultaneous use of multiple computer systems
  • Proven ability to organize and prioritize workload
  • Strong detail-orientation
  • Proficiency in typing
  • Ability to problem solve/troubleshoot issues
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by the duties of the position
  • Perform the physical/functional responsibilities of the position

Qualifications


Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of medical, clinical laboratory or reference laboratory experience preferred
  • Ability to obtain a Medical Assistant Phlebotomist (MA-P) certification through the Washington State Department of Health within 90 days of hire.
  • Current BLS within 60 days of hire.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger coordination, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and listen attentively. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

 

Immunization Requirements: Employees are required to meet immunization standards in accordance with federal, state, and organizational health and safety guidelines, as applicable to the role. A simple process is in place for employees to request exemptions for medical or religious reasons.
