Family Centered Services of Alaska (FCSA) is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) corporation founded in 1989 by Fairbanks, Alaska community members committed to helping children with a wide spectrum of behavioral and mental health needs. Today, FCSA has over 100 employees dedicated to our mission of providing unconditional care to children and their families.
FCSA provides behavioral and mental health services to youth aged 5-19. Services include outpatient therapy, education, foster care, and short or long-term residential treatment. FCSA is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and was one of the first organizations to be licensed by the state to establish, recruit, and monitor foster homes.
Smart Start Learning Center is a subsidiary of FCSA and provides daytime care to families in our community. Employees of FCSA are eligible to enroll their children in childcare services and enjoy a discount on their monthly tuition (contingent on enrollment availability).
About the Job
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) will provide direct support to FCSA’s Psychiatrist and support the youth clientele across company programs. The LPN will administer & monitor medication (prescribed psychiatric med & over-the-counter med), provide physical examinations as necessary, and provide assessment of clients in cases of injury and/or sickness. The LPN will arrange for additional examination or tests with local medical professionals when necessary.
Responsibilities:
1. Maintain records of each client’s medications, dosing, and administration such as changes and authorizations.
2. Dispense medications.
3. Prepare medication refill orders and arrange for refills under the supervision of FCSA’s Psychiatrist.
4. Prepare and present classes on hygiene and health to FCSA clients.
5. Prepare and present classes to staff as required (e.g. medication monitoring, side effects of medications, emergency procedures).
6. Provide health screening of clients.
7. Report activities in client note/billing format for each client including medical, clinical, and rehabilitation notes.
8. Participate in clinical meetings as required.
9. Respond appropriately in crisis situations.
10. As mandated by Alaska law, report child abuse and neglect.
11. Maintain client confidentiality.
12. Maintain FCSA’s Psychiatrist’s schedule.
13. Act as a liaison between FCSA staff and Psychiatrist.
14. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. High school diploma of G.E.D required. Associates in nursing preferred.
2. State of Alaska licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse or working to obtain licensure as negotiated.
3. Two years’ experience as a nurse preferably working with children and young adults 18 or younger.
4. Freedom from previous criminal arrests or convictions that may adversely affect the employee's potential performance as verified by a fingerprint and records check.
5. Current first aid and CPR certificate.
6. Other internal (FCSA) or external certification and/or training determined essential
7. This position is a driving position. Applicants will be required to submit a driving record if selected for the position.
8. All applicants must be at least 21 years of age due to State of AK regulations and must pass a State of AK Background Check.
